They've been slightly less non-competitive on the road, in Big East play.believe they are missing one of their better players as well in Chico Carter...
DePaul was within 3 of Creighton at half a couple games ago... but if we aren't up double digits at half and run away with in the 2nd... it will be
dissappointing...
Good comment . But , the Portal has created a new dynamic . Hurley is playing it to near perfection .But in the past, Rick’s second season was always based on developing his current talent and continuity. In the world of NIL and expressed by Rick as a “big concern” in his recent presser, there is no continuity in college hoops anymore and with Rick’s demanding defensive system, expecting new players year in and year out to pick things up quickly is a stretch.
Agree….. the key is to build around a solid core of developed HS talent(if they would stay) and pick a few from the portal to fill in spots.Good comment . But , the Portal has created a new dynamic . Hurley is playing it to near perfection .
Bring in a stud Lottery pick guard every year. Like Boughnight. , Castle and the kid last year .
Next get a sharp shooting Transfer like Spencer. Keep a core level of talent , Clingan , Newton , Carrabann . Supplement with
a good recruit , like Bell , give him some PT sp he can contribute next year .
It’s easier to teach 2 new Starters your defensive and offense than 5 or 6 new players .
RP can do that and it will be interesting to see who he brings in from the Portal and whether he can still bring in that stud guard from HS .
Kids who have already committed are still fair game as we saw last year .
I think the names you’ve heard will be on the list you see at the end. Where they land with NIL exploding nothing is definitive anymoreHope you’re right as the talent pool left after this season, even if no one leaves, is not worthy of a place in the upper half of the conference. Also, there is allot of chatter on the board of many names being thrown around as portal target guarantees, fact or wishful thinking?
It was well-known that CRP intended to import his entire Iona backcourt—-which he failed to do. But knowing of Rick’s intention, it’s easy to believe Posh’s claim that “he didn’t feel wanted.” The truth of the whole thing is murky. But DO NOT try to paint him as anything but a team player. The main reason for his off-year last season was trying to accommodate the selfishness and erratic behavior of Curbelo. Matta, Anderson or anyone else who’s ever coached him will confirm that he’s the ULTIMATE team player. So what should Pitino have done when Alexander nixed working out: say “okay, let me know when you can make it, we really need you”. Did you see Alexander’s body language on the court last year? His obvious disinterest and lack of attentiveness in huddles, not to mention the associated public disrespect out there for everyone to see? And don’t get me wrong, he was certainly not alone in that behavior. And I am sure there was collateral damage to some of the players jettisoned, some guilt by association, if you will.
But let me add, when I was in my late teens/early twenties I did far worse things than have poor body language or be disrespectful to a person of authority, FAR worse. So I am describing actions at a point in time, not remotely attempting to define a person I never met.
But do you guys think the decision to turn over the WHOLE roster was done on a whim over a beer by an administrator as experienced as Father Stanley, not to mention that he seems have genuine basketball acumen. The fact is the program was broken, and rightly or wrongly, the decision was made to essentially flip the whole thing. Was it the right decision, I have absolutely no idea and won’t speculate.
However I will end with this, Alexander was certainly entitled to go to AC with his girlfriend in the off-season, no question; but under the circumstances, you make that decision, you live with the consequences. Which, as far as I can tell he has done like a mature adult and I feel he has translated the move into probably his best season since his freshman year. Respect from me for both of those things.
Back home!!!Guys- will be driving out there with the Fam- what is the "Closest" parking lot i should set my destination to?
You would be better off parking by any stop on the Huntington line of the LIRR. It stops right by the arena, it’s way cheaper than parking and parking at the arena is not close.Guys- will be driving out there with the Fam- what is the "Closest" parking lot i should set my destination to?
Actually the new world of the portal. In the new world of NIL, this theory may not apply.
I think the frustration is bubbling because we had three chances to getting the marquee win, and the team's still consistent inconsistent effort/defense isn't something we expected from a Pitino team in late January.Everyone knew this was the gauntlet part of the schedule, the notion that the conference record is a surprise is foolish if you remember back when the schedule came out how most of us were hoping to just "survive" this portion. No one pegged SJU to lose 5/6 in this stretch, you probably didn't pencil in a 4-1 start. You probably didn't think the Seton Hall drubbing was happening. Swap the Seton Hall and Xavier road losses with one of the Nova and PC win and would you feel better if the record was the same but the skid of 5 out of 6 wasn't happening?
We all knew the end of the schedule was favorable, you just didn't want to drown in the middle after the 4-1 start. Well you did. But now if you want to be a team that plays in the 2nd and 3rd week of March it's time to go 6-3 over your last 9. Start tonight.
DePaul and Georgetown = 4. There's nothing to talk about here, lose 1 your seasons is essentially toast.
Home vs Seton Hall, Road vs Butler, Providence = Win 2 of these you're probably in. Win 3 of these and you're at 20 wins in the Big East and 12-8, your chilling on Selection Sunday.
Road vs Marquette, Home vs Creighton = ranked strong quad 1 cherry on tops, change narrative type chances.
Then go into the Big East tournament as likely 4/5 seed and fight for seeding in the Big Dance.
If you want to be a tournament team, if you're serious about the mental makeup and the seniors making a lasting impression on their college careers, go 6-3.
Starts today. Beat their brains in and get this thing on the right track.
“This is where we should be strong as a team — around this time of the season — because this is when it really matters,” Daniss Jenkins said. “What we went through in the beginning of the season? It doesn’t matter to this point because all that matters right now is this month of February. This is where teams are made. This is where teams make their mark.” - Newsday today.
Understandable, but there's still ways to to pick up a marquee win or two (Marquette and Creighton), along with a couple good wins (Butler and Seton Hall), and a decent win (Providence).I think the frustration is bubbling because we had three chances to getting the marquee win, and the team's still consistent inconsistent effort/defense isn't something we expected from a Pitino team in late January.
