Transfer Portal

Is there a possibility that Walter Clayton, Jr. enters the transfer portal to play for Rick Pitino and St. John's next year? He must be aware of the media coverage Rick Pitino, St. John's and even Daniss Jenkins are now getting and St. John's needs a point guard next year. Is this farfetched?
yes

Is it possible yes but I doubt it. He is home, playing well and for a pretty decent team whose worst loss (4) so far is to a decent UVA team.

Was your yes in response to jt being a possibility or it being far fetched.
Answered the last sentence. It seems pretty far fetched. Like others pointed out he's home with a kid. Support system. He obviously liked Pitino enough to consider STJ long and hard but I would think that ship has sailed barring a weird turn of events like UF dropping him from the NIL payroll or a coaching change there that he's not on board with.

Maybe he didn’t love Jenkins taking so many shots last year and saw a repeat happening here? Clayton shot 43% from 3 and was the MAAC player of the year yet somehow had 76 less shots than Jenkins.

Luis and Jenkins aggressively gestured to each other twice during the Providence game.

Probably a long shot, but he’d be exactly what we needed.

Nearly 1/3 of all D1 players hit the portals last year, or something like that.

There will be lots of high quality players to choose from, and this year with a stable staff and Matt on board, I'm comfortable that the heavy lifting of identifying possible targets is underway. At the very least identifying needs is already firming up.

Six 5th year players have accelerated acclimation to Pitino's style and demands. I don't hear a whisper of discontent, and it's clear that every kid has been ready when Pitino calls their number.

Clayton? Maybe. But it's not like he is Isaiah Thomas or anything. Lol

If only they had a coach who could have managed that on-court relationship better!

Clayton had two years under Pitino and that is more than any major player we have returning next year and twice what Jenkins had coming in this year + a year of playing some point and major minutes for an SEC team. Do we want to be waiting until late January to get going every year?

He’s a ++ shooter and a ferocious defender. Anything is possible with NIL and transfers.

There are countless options for next year as you alluded to — and I think Pitino will be very dangerous since he will have the luxury of being selective — but if we could get the NIL lined up, Clayton checks some boxes nobody else can. And it’s a great story.

But some of the guys have been getting me pumped on Zakai Zeigler too.

Paultz, they were outscored by 36 in the 2nd half, 57-21. They Literally Quit!!! Not sure how you come back from a game like this. I also know that Cronin is not popular among UCLA basketball alums.
Cronin has had some success there obviously and he even tried to employ a different approach from his Cincinnati teams but most people I know thought that was a mismatch from day one. As did I.

I also looked at the boxscore and noticed that Brandon Williams played 10 minutes and only scored 2 points. Do you think that he and his handlers are having second thoughts about choosing UCLA over St. John's?

Seems like every coach since Wooden has worn out his welcome rather quickly in Westwood. I know that Wooden set the bar extremely high, but eventually the fan base is going to have to accept the fact that the college basketball has changed since the Wooden days.
