Storr and Jones are different types of Players . I don’t see them as comparable .

I wasn’t a Jones fan . I remember the 7-23 game all too well . And , I’m not sure I buy into the idea of having Pitino Coach him would have helped him .

By this time in his BB Career , he is what he is and not likely to change . Good Luck to him as he continues his BB Journey .
They are very different players. My only point was for all his warts, Jones was a tremendous rebounder. And for all Storr’s ability, he was an atrocious rebounder.

Looking at their size and athleticism, there’s nothing physically that should equate to such a disparity in rebounding ability. Some guys just have it.

Half of his rebounds were his own missed shots which leads to rebounds and 7-23 and 5-22 shooting. A shrug from me. I rather have a guy just make a layup.

He was a solid defensive rebounder.

Are we talking Big East here? If so I’d never welcome a team anywhere near that caliber. I don’t think a league needs perennial doormats. Every program should offer something to the conference.
No , not BE. This all started with the opinion of letting UCONN and Rutgers form their own League in a fantasy world .

Many of existing Leagues have perennial Bottom teams . In the BE , we , DePaul , G’Town have been occupants of dismals

Vanderbilt in FB in the SEC is Always near the bottom . But , great in baseball .

Rutgers , when in the BE was pretty much counted on for last place .

Doormats happen for lots of reasons but , it happens all the time .

DePaul , for example , will they ever escape the dungeons of the BE?

Very doubtful unless they get a Home Run Coach and $$$$ in their NIL .. like we have done .

They would need a Jay Wright or Coach K type to move up the ladder .

I know you’re exaggerating to prove the point about him being a chuck. Which is fine but wasn’t my point.

His defensive rebound rate was in the top 300 of all players in the country. Storr’s was lowest on the team outside Posh

Jones was an enigma to me. Seemed like a good kid who should be coachable but a crazy chucker almost every time he got the ball. Had a very nice stroke from the free throw line but that didn't translate to even decent three point shooting. As Amase said, very good rebounder who was most effective when taking the ball straight to the hoop which he didn't do often enough. Seems destined to be a case of unrealized potential.

Jones is a talented player, but all I need to see is who Pitino asked back, who he seemingly considered asking back, and who he seemingly did not.

No knock on any who fall into the latter category, but perhaps the best college coach of my generation (at least one of them), got the 2 he wanted, and showed potential interest in Posh and Storr. No clue why the Storr didn’t end up here, and Posh was obviously given a test he chose not to pursue so RP moved on.

As I said I think he was a good defensive rebounder. I absolutely believe his offensive rebounding numbers were inflated by his inability to finish, with an ability to then get his own rebound. And miss again - and do it again. But in most of those cases he eventually scored, which is something. Rebounding was his greatest strength, but I just think in his case there is context beyond the raw numbers. I looked at his statistics coming from DePaul and was thrilled SJU was getting him. And then when I started watching him I saw how empty a lot of his numbers were.

But yes, after Soriano he was the best defensive rebounder on the team, Storr was a poor rebounder. So, by the way was Stanley.

But I would have been pleased if either of them had stayed and am happy Jones is moving on.

Make of that what you will.

This is when you know things are going very well around here.

Mase has moved on from arguing the merits of starting lineups — specifically at power forward — with Marillac, to having heated debates over the merits of Jones’ rebounding statistics with a different member, IDRAFT.

I like it.

who’s next?? Let’s make this a mass-debate

You pick. I will be entertained no matter what. 😀
I think that Jones never saw a shot he didn't like.

At the beginning of the season, against weaker competition he
even looked like a great three point shooter, but he proved not
to be, as the competition got better.

Very strong driver and on following up his shots.
He reminded me of Curbello, in that he was much more me me me than
TEAM TEAM TEAM.,IMHO they both are addition by subtraction.

re: Tyler Burton from Richmond

Pitino recruited his father at Providence and was his coach during his redshirt year, before going to the NBA. This would've been a big piece but cannot see how we could do anything.

I know you are capable of more than 1 sentence . As the Chief Paragraphing Officer of redfans.com , you should be setting the example of multiple paragraphs in nearly every post .

Otherwise , the huddled masses on here will be rebellious and skip into the No Paragraphing Jug .

It’s raining here in SCarolina , no outside fun today . Perhaps that’s the reason for nit picking .

But, you can take it . A not never hurt anyone .

Enjoy the Memorial Day weekend as we remember those who gave their lives in service to American Freedom .

Jones played like he had talent but no basketball instincts. SJU up five two minutes to go he grabs a rebound and instead of burning some clock he immediately throws up a three pointer.
Instead of setting up a give and go with a teammate he constantly would take thirty foot bull rushes to the rim. He played as if he gave up the ball he had no chance of ever getting it back. How much this was on Jones or Anderson’s half court no coaching philosophy is anybody’s guess.

I am a Pikiell admirer - I think he has done a great job at Rutgers. Some may disagree, but it helps to remember what a dumpster fire Rutgers was before he got there and how far the program had fallen under Eddie Jordan. And Jordan was an all-time great Rutgers players, a former assistant coach there, and had some success as an NBA head coach. Pikiell needs to get credit for rebuilding the program.

I'm not a fan, but he was going to be a steal for nearly every team in the country thanks to Michigan thinking they were an Ivy League school.
