Transfer Portal

Yeah, that was Jay Wright's first recruiting triumph over us.
I could be wrong, but I recall the Jarvis years as initially great success, buoyed by Fran's recruits and then a slow-building disaster that ended in a train wreck.
Jarvis had some horrific luck and also had a few miscalculations that screwed him. The NCAA chased Erick Barkley out of college over an SUV in the most bizarre and arbitrary witch hunts of all-time. Then he lost back to back top 5 commitments,
Darius Miles and Lenny Cooke, to the NBA draft. Omar Cook jumping to the NBA after a year. Willie Shaw getting suspended for smoking pot (something every player in D-1 did) a week prior to the NCAA tournament game against Wisconsin. Just brutal stuff.

Then our fans started to swarm. Fire Jarvis chants the year after making tournament in a year he won’t the NIT. The guy jist recruited to 25 Showtime, a McDonald’s All American in Elijah Ingram, to 75 Lamont Hamilton, and two nasty JUCOs.

If we kept Jarvis we would have made 10-12 NCAA tournaments in the span of Norm, Lavin, Mullin, and Anderson.

6’6 sophomore. Not great from 3 but excellent from the Line and gets there a bunch.

24 7 summary of Glen Taylor, Jr.

Versatile wing with good size and length. Plus frame with plenty of room to get stronger. Best as a slasher due to body control and high level touch around the basket. Streaky shooter who is more of a weapon off the bounce. Sees the court very well and has a high basketball IQ. Size and length give him chance to be multiple positional defender. Late-bloomer who should ultimately be starter at high major level.

Yeah with guys like that "nasty" juco Grady Reynolds, who lived up to his potential by assaulting a young lady on the swim team and a few others, including the mac aa, who obviously learned a lot in their economics class when they didn't pay a hooker in their room in Pitt. Lived up to his promise to "recruit players with character and not characters".

Nice, with Fran's players, guy is a sleaze.

I don’t love players coming from terrible teams. Oregon St. was horrific the last two years.

Mahoney won tournament game with players Louie never played. Actually probably the single greatest coaching season in ST John’s history.

Lavin made tournament with Norm’s 6th and 7th men as his best players.

As far as sleaze part, then they should have let Norm coach forever.
Norm sucked as a coach, but by what standard do you describe him as a sleaze?

I can only remember one "nasty" JUCO player, Marcus Hatten, who came aboard in 2001 (two years before Jarvis was fired).

He may be referencing Rodney Epperson (who ended up being ineligible) and Ryan Williams (he could jump and slash, but that was the gist of it), but they were Norm Roberts' recruits. Epperson seemed to have some decent skills, in his brief stint, from what I recall.

Love your logic.
Ok….
Why did we finally get a coach like Rick Pitino
Some of you have roving morale standards. Changes depending on what you want.

Hate Jarvis he was a sleaze. But our current coach was relegated to coaching in Greece but will pay that no never mind.

You went from posting about jarvii to mentioning every coach we've had for the last 30 years. Whatever works for you.

No
Simply said I liked Jarvis first 2 teams. Can’t hate him because of that. Don’t care about sleaze thing. Is Roy Williams a sleaze? Pitino? Calipari?
You just hate the sleaze that is no longer here evidently.
