Zena Edosomwan, PF - HARVARD

So, out of Sampson, Obekpa, Sanchez, Shepherd, Edosomwan and Young, if Lavin can land any two of them it would be good, any combination of three of them would be excellent. Just add a guard like Felix Balamou and we'll be set. It sounds like it can be done.

Pretty sure Balamou is out of picture or at least backseat to Parga.

Will he pass up a Harvard degree? He is their primary recruit to maintain their Ivy dominance.

That said, as an undergrad, I'm a believer that he can get the same things at SJU..

If academics are higher on his priority list than basketball, he'd be nuts not to go to Harvard

I have two degrees from St. John's. He can't get the same things at SJU that he can get at Harvard. Not even close!!

Agree, although undergrad degrees don't mean all that much. In this day and age, most need graduate degrees to traverse the heirarchical status in business etc. Regardless, it's a breath of fresh air to see such a smart young man in this game and pursuing those goals. Good luck to him wherever he chooses.

If total academic/athletic/sexy girl experience is tops on list, I'd go to Stanford or Berkeley before Harvard.

Keep in mind that he's 6'9" 235 and growing, with good hands. And if he's willing to hear Lavin out, and his history with big men at UCLA, he might just think hard about us. Depending on who we land, he could be a freshman starter in the Big East, which might appeal to him.

He likely will be a freshman starter in the Big East. We have big needs at the 4/5 spots. Having studs like Moe and D'Lo at the 2/3 spots next to him takes a ton of pressure off him as well. He would get tons of PT right away, which should appeal to a lot of these guys.

As someone who is somewhat recently removed from a good, but not ivy quality, undergrad program, I strongly disagree that it doesn't mean all that much. That said, hope he comes on board!

I guess it depends on field of study.

This thread is just terrible as it shows all of the naysayers that the staff has an excellent back-up plan for their primary targets and that just can't be.
Ricardo Gathers verballed to Bayor and our program collapsed. He was the only power forward out there who could strengthen our inside game going forward and now we have to discuss suitable possible replacements, this makes just no sense.
Wait until we find out about plan C then Illwill, John, Bobre and a host of others will be jumping out their windows.

All depends on what he wants to do. In this case, if he chooses a school like that for academic reasons, I can't find an iota of fault in it. That said, as an undergrad, I'm a believer that he can get the same things at SJU. It's up to the student. He does well as an undergrad anywhere and he can follow his academic dreams into any field.

Oh please, are you really foolish enough to believe that a St. Johns dgree will open up the same doors as one from Harvard? I think you have been working too many late hours.

I think MCNPA clearly meant and I do agree that doing well at SJU can open many a door in the future if you apply yourself properly. It certainly has for me.

Kid looks good. Nice touch from the outside. Reminded me of a more slender Yancy Gates.

Yancy Gates without the strength and inside game. Yancy dominated inside in the high school game. There is no comparison. I just hope we are not bringing in Norm level talent or the poundings will continue into the next decade. Let's hope some of our original targets are still gettable.

Unless there were some post remove, not sure why you would say this thread is terrible? I don't see the regular naysayers on this thread yet.

Are you talking about the education comparison?

I choose those late hours and am doing fantastic. I only work 3 days a week. My sister graduated valedictorian at SJU and is also doing fantastic. I have many friends who went Ivy's as undergrads and aren't doing anything big at all. You don't just walk into and Ivy and have CEO's dropping jobs in your lap. Liberal arts degree out of an ivy in poetry isn't opening many doors. Depends on what you study. The hire learning landscape has changed a lot since a few decades ago. Pedigree certainly can matter but depends on field of study.

Are you nuts? This kid had offers from UCLA, Texas, Washington, USC, and lots of other schools. He's not top 25 like Gates was, but is a rapidly rising. Norm level player? There isn't a Norm-level player on this team and Lavin's Selectivity is the reason we don't have 6 marginal guys signed already. We've been on Edosomwan for a while now and while not as "original" of a target as Gathers or Jakarr, but a high level recruit nonetheless. If anything this staff has shown us is that they can evaluate talent. Phil Greene wasn't highly rated but is playing real well in big east play and looks to be a good player over next few years.

Anyone have any idea how we stand with Edosomwan or the other big from out west -Young, I believe his name is? Thanks in advance.
