Zags reporting MA Will Be Brought Back. Please boycott the games and donations

I ABSOLUTELY know where he got this from and he should be embarrassed that he put it out there. His source has motives, he knows that, he knows it's false and yet he put it out to keep a "source" for future information. A total joke. Their is absolutely ZERO chance he returns AND remember I wanted Mike, I've known him for years and I stand by him as a man and a coach. He's however has not been successful here and WILL NOT be returning

Now I'm hearing scores of students are lying all around campus in an apparent die-in!

Scratch that. Apparently a ton of chairs have been taken recently by the Cecilia Chang foundation.

Hey, be mad and disappointed with who you want but please don’t take it out on the players.

The players are 18 to 22 year old who I understand are by and large good kids. Kids like Soriano have worked their asses off and deserve the respect and support of the grey haired AARP crowd that post on Red.Fans
I hope for the StJ’s players finish the season on the up.
I am a proud member of the "follically challenged" AARP crowd that posts on Red.Fans and will always support our kids!!!
I wish that I had gray hair.
Heck, I wish I had hair!!!!

Universities are incredibly political organizations. Shanley wasn’t hired to just oversee the basketball program, he’s got several hundred faculty members who are his constituents. The internal optics of paying Anderson around $8-10 million to go away are just horrendous for a non-football school like SJU. I would not underestimate this.

I'm quite certain the faculty in the Gender Studies department won't even know about it

So you know what the actual buyout is? Source? Or speculation?

Once again , many folks haven’t examined the University’s Financial Statements as thoroughly as Tx Redman has done . His comments about the Financial Strength of the School, supported by KPMG Audits and Moody’s Analysis disprove any inability to pay off CMA’s buyout terms . The School Authorities might blanch at it but , the Money is securely there . As Catholics many of us recall the constant preaching we experienced about how poor the Church was , when the Church in Rome has more money than they could spend in a 100 years if they gave it away . My Parish routinely banks close to $ 40,000 every Sunday from Collections . True it’s a large Parish in a well to do area but , still that’s quite a tidy sum . Enough to retain Financial Advisors and Investment firms . St John ‘s has a lot of Assets , be sure about it . The Sale of the Manhattan Insurance Building and the Staten Island Campus had to generate multiple Millions . So , don’t worry about a CMA buyout crippling the University .

Just like Frankie Pantangeli, I may not have a mind for business at the level of Michael (Cragg) and whomever else extended CMA. But I still don't understand what they were thinking. CMA was about 61 at the time, had just finished a game over 500 in conference, and did not have any 4 star players locked up for the next season. I also don't recall any talk of other colleges looking to steal him away, or any pro teams courting him similar to the rumors about Jarvis after the Elite 8 season. Yet no one but the posters here are even questioning why it happened and the fallout if indeed the buyout is the reason CMA stays next season. Not that I believe the story, but a buyout shouldn't even be in play.

The NY Post has been saying Anderson makes around $2.5 million/year. Zagoria’s article says he makes $2.85 million per year. He has another 4 years left on his contract, so that’s anywhere from $10 million to $11.4 million remaining on his contract.

It is very common for a coach who is "fired without cause" to be paid out 100% of what is owed on the remaining contract. Even in those cases where it’s not 100%, it is typically 75% or 85% of what’s owed on the remaining contract. Examples here:

So that gets you to a buyout of at least $7.5 million on the low end and $11.4 million on the high end. If Anderson got another job offer, the compensation he would receive would offset what SJU owes him. But then you have to ask: Who is going to hire a 63 year old who has just been fired from his last 2 jobs?

Let's also keep in mind there's not a lot to be optimistic about on the recruiting front either. We don't exactly have a top class coming in with Gardner, Lendeborg and Reede. I guess they can try to play the transfer game again, but as we're seeing with Curbelo and Jones, that is far from a safe bet.
You mean to tell me that you, like so many other posters, don't believe that Reede is the next Pistol Pete?

If Zags has accurate info, and I have no clue whether he does or doesn't, then IMO that means that Cragg's recent comments were just lip service meant to appease the disgruntled fan base.

I've long felt that CMA's salary was in the 3 Mil range.

Monte, let's wait to see what happens after the season ends before we characterize Cragg's comments as lip service. I suspect they were well thought out.

I actually think we will be fortunate if Joe Oliva doesn't get nervous and offers our coach, Gentleman Mike, yet another raise and extension.
