Zags' source is speculating based on the buyout not on actual information.
Whether the buyout is large or not won't matter, bringing him back at this point is simply untenable. And Cragg knows it.
Is he praying for a 6-0 finish and a run in the BET so he can justify bringing him back? Absolutely. That is why he sent the email there is always that chance. But outside of that he is gone.

I wouldn't exactly take that report to the bank. Very thinly sourced.
I see a final regular season record of 5 & 15 which will make it hard to rationalize MA’s return. Six wins won’t change that either. There will be no miracle BE T run and agree with Fordham re Cragg’s reason for his pie in the sky email.

Boy, what a completely devastating season compared to how optimistic I was at the start of the season.
In a perfect world they want Mike back, the question is what is the standard to bring him back?
I think NIT bid is the lowest standard the school will accept and Cragg can rationalize and sell to fans. I stated that in the preseason, CMA keeps his job if they make the NIT. They were a bubble NIT team last year who almost beat Nova in the BET. NIT bid shows some kind of improvement.

Bottom line is they have Creighton and UCONN at home with Xavier and Marquette on the road. I don't see them winning any of those 4 games. I know the argument could be made "Well they beat UCONN already at UCONN..." so what? UCONN Is much better and playing back to their potential now. They are not losing at MSG to SJU. And right now DePaul and Georgetown are maybe lean SJU but on the road who knows.

That's right my bad. UCONN, PC and Creighton at home with Marquette on the road. Hard to see how any of those let alone all 4 of those games being won by SJU. All 4 of those teams demonstrably better than SJU and all of them are going to be focused on seeding in the BET and therefore are going to be extra motivated to NOT lose to a team they know they should beat, SJU.

The inability to stop the bleeding while often losing by wide margins of is compelling and even Anderson must realize that. Cragg can spin possibilities for turning it around, but he has to know deep down MA has evidenced zero capacity to do that. Yes it is “AD speak” and if Cragg was a betting man he would not risk a buck on this, a lottery ticket a better option.

CMA lost this team, as ron said, they'll be lucky to finish 2-4.
You can't retain a coach who lost his team, that would be insane.
Let's also keep in mind there's not a lot to be optimistic about on the recruiting front either. We don't exactly have a top class coming in with Gardner, Lendeborg and Reede. I guess they can try to play the transfer game again, but as we're seeing with Curbelo and Jones, that is far from a safe bet.
Momentum in either direction is never far away. Like I said I’m not predicting it. But we saw an 0-11 BE team beat a top 5 Duke team and #1 nova team on the road back to back once. Did Mullin “have” that team prior?

Here is what needs to happen: do not attend any more games this year. All fans needs to email Shanley and Cragg. If you are a season ticket holder and/or booster, your email to Cragg and Shanley must say that you will not renew your tickets and will not donate to the school or program any further if MA is brought back. Probably should also halt any membership to Storm Marketing NIL which also serves to prop up the current coach.
