I could be wrong but I don’t think Stanley was here when Anderson got his extension. As I said in another thread a month or so ago, from what I heard about Stanley is he is not afraid to take a stance and make tough decisions. He is decisive and resolute. I would love to see us finally get it right and its been too long since we did.

Shanley hired Nov 2021, started Feb 2021, extension announced May 2021.

And....everyone that is opining on the position seems to know Pitino is the smart move.

Of course, nothing would be more typical of St. John's than to go against a nearly unanimous consensus.
 
I can hear the naysayers, "St. John's has hit new lows of desperation for it's basketball program by pursuing Pitino"! One can't argue to much against that perspective. Great coach but lots of baggage.

Who gives a rats patootie about any naysayers. If they don’t know we are desperate by now they haven’t been paying attention. Desperate times call for desperate measures although I hardly think hiring Pitino is a desperate measure.

Actually, I do not think that would be a prevalent perspective. Pitino has done his penance and people get it....St. John's needs a jump start.

If the Board of Trustees are worried about blow back, they will get more for not pursuing Pitino than they will for hiring him.

I also don’t recall Providence’s fan base traveling particularly well, but maybe that’s changed as they’ve become more successful.

I was at the Garden for SJU's upset of Providence and it sure sounded like there were a lot of Friar fans in attendance.
