For an SJU fan you are a child.I'm 34 now, am I still young?
I get all of that, but I feel like going with a young coach who has had success winning games is different than the approach sju has used the last 20 years. Of course if options exists to get a proven HM coach who is not on downside of career, then take it and don’t look back.Gambling when you are a consistent loser is for fools. Also the definition of insanity at this point. I think the situation will be extra challenging for a younger coach because of the internal politics and the state of the program. It is not just about being good at in game coaching or recruiting. We need a man with a plan and someone one who can effectively wade through so much BS and not be sucked into it. A more mature coach will maybe be better equipped to deal with it.
I never understood this good guy thinking. Not personal is about the basketball. My next door neighbor is a really nice guy but don’t want him coaching ST John’sI have to say I really like Mike Anderson, the person or at least what I’ve read about him. That is why “piling on” bothers me. However, results matter. Direction matters. The problem is there is NO EVIDENCE that we even have a COACH. I literally believe we roll the ball out and “play” or whatever it is this team does. Who’s next? I have no idea. That being said almost anyone who attempts to Coach the team is going to look better than this. That’s a fact.
I think that’s what I said Larry. I don’t think its a bad thing to root for “good” people to succeed. At the end of the day, you have to win.I never understood this good guy thinking. Just meant the feeling bad part that was very prevalent during Norm tenure.I think that’s what I said Larry. I don’t think its a bad thing to root for “good” people to succeed. At the end of the day, you have to win.
Like many here I actually met Norm. I was at a coffee shop on Long Island. Totally chance meeting. It was like 8 on a Saturday morning. He was at a local Church gym for his son’s game. I recognized him and we spoke for about 15 minutes about the Program. Great guy.Just meant the feeling bad part that was very prevalent during Norm tenure.
Just by being SJU fans we are gambling. And for the longest time they have been sucker bets.Gambling when you are a consistent loser is for fools. Also the definition of insanity at this point. Shanley displayed mind-boggling financial incompetence with CMA’s extension. You have far more faith in his decision-making abilities than I do.
You’re a St John’s NCAA birth away from a colonoscopy and an NCAA win away from collecting social securityI'm 34 now, am I still young?
Right now, SJU looks like Ohio State in comparison to Georgetown. GU literally GIVES AWAY tickets to its games at Verizon Center.Do Gtown fans travel? My recollection from attending a number of games in DC was that GTown’a fan base was nearly as apathetic as ours. I don’t recall them traveling well at all. Guess we’ll see tonight.
I also don’t recall Providence’s fan base traveling particularly well, but maybe that’s changed as they’ve become more successful.
Exactly it seems like we don’t have a coach Teams run plays pass it around. EtcI have to say I really like Mike Anderson, the person or at least what I’ve read about him. We don't need no stinking committee. We have Joe Oliva leading us into the 21st century. Sit back and enjoy the ride.A blast e mail came to me a few minutes ago from the Chairman of the Board and President of SJU with news from the Board of Trustees, etc, etc, buried at the end was as follows:
""In addition, recognizing the importance of intercollegiate athletics to the student experience, the Board voted to re-establish a stand-alone Athletics Committee. These committees will have their first meetings....""
Co-Ink-e-dink?
[ why did they get rid of this Committee in the first place?]
I agree with everything you said. However, I don’t think posters/fans of sju would be saying their coach coached a very good game if he blew a double digit second half lead at home. But again I agree with you. There’s always another team and another coach who’s trying just as hard on the other end.If anyone watched Creighton vs Marquette last night, it was a battle of two very well coached teams. Sure, some mistakes were made on play execution here and there, but overall, it was a pleasure to watch. I'm done with SJU street ball. We need an actual basketball coach who has coached teams that ran actual plays.
On tonight’s PTI sports show Tony Kornheiser said both SJU or Georgetown could win a national championship if they hired Pitino.
