The Pretenders lost this game in the first 2 innings. They let the Rangers off the hook.
Another day, another way to lose a critical game.
3 for 15 with RISP. All season long this has been a major issue. That, and the fact they do not move runners along, or score runners form 3rd with less than 2 outs.
A new voice is needed ASAP!!! GTF rid of Idiot Boone once and for all before it's too late to eek into the playoffs.
BTW, Fried has not been the same for about 8 or 10 starts now. Just wondering if he's not 100%.

It's like Russian roulette with 4 bullets in the chamber........at least one of them will fail.......it's all driven by the starters' inability to go more than 5 or 6 innings.

Devin Williams has more than enough instances to prove that he can't pitch in a NY uniform. Not everyone is cut out to play in the fishbowl of New York, and sadly, he appears to be one of those who can't. I can't kill Cashman for the trade - I was in favor of it when it was announced.
But Jake Bird is really bad. His numbers leading into the trade deadline were not good, and it hasn't changed. This team is a complete mess right now.

So, if the starters can't do that, then it's time to push some of these guys for more than one inning. Bednar looked much better on Friday night when they sent him back out for the 8th inning (his problems came picking up Bird in the 7th), and he was effective again, last night.
I would make him the primary closer, but I wouldn't hesistate to use him for 4 or 5 outs (maybe even 6) if need be. If I don't have him the next day, fine, I can just use someone else for a similar-style role.
Maybe there's somebody down there that he can get out.

Ed Whitson 2.0 should not be put in a high leverage situation for a very long time. The guy's confidence is completely shattered, and all the king's horses and all the king's men won't put him back together this year.
But, to be fair, the offense playing pillow fighting last night against Eovaldi is why they lost. Just a completely pathetic night of at bats by this team. There's a part of me that thinks if they get swept today that Boone could be fired. Then, I wake up and realize that Hal Steinbrenner doesn't truly care that much as long as the seats are bought and paid for. It will be interesting to see what the crowds are like at the stadium this weekend, especially for Old Timer's Day. If there are boos on that day, and that day is typically the tamest crowd the Yankees get in any given season, it's a sign that, to paraphrase Walter Cronkite, that the Yankees have lost their home base.
