Yankees - 2019

Sanchez has 14 errors this season, 6 past balls and 27 wild pitches thrown when he's behind the plate. His progress is an optical illusion.
How many of the 29 other teams would want him over their current catcher.
As a catcher or hitter?
Well I wrote catcher. But I knew you would respond that way.

One person might say Contreras. Another might say Realmuto. Maybe there is another catcher who might be a preference but likely safe to say he’s top 3 catcher in baseball.
Everyone makes boneheaded plays. If you watch every inning of every single game like I think many posters in this thread actually do you should take blinders off and just accept players will make mistakes over the course of 162 games. He is a lethal hitter and yes in a perfect world he is a DH. But he has a cannon for arm which is overlooked because of passed balls. He doesn’t make many throwing errors.

My point was early on this year it was just like last year with the criticism. Then it disappeared for months. Now all of a sudden he makes a boneheaded baserunning mistake and the vultures reappear. Found it very ironic.

Torres makes a fair share of bad fielding errors. But he’s not a target of ire for some reason. Be equal. Why is that so hard? Why is Gary such a target.
Sanchez is the target of criticism because he does NOT hustle! He has 14 errors so far this year the vast majority of which are throwing errors. If I recall correctly, at least his first 6 errors were throwing errors. Obviously this does not include the many wild pitches many of which a good defensive catcher would block.

14 errors on year. 6 passed balls. Assuming 8 throws then ? Did find this article from a few days ago

Sanchez did rack up four errors in his first five games and seven over his first 21, but he’s had three in his last 10, too. And regardless of when the errors were piled up, he has 14 over 613 1/3 innings caught this season after committing six errors in 653 innings in 2018.
Virtually everyone would want him as a C. As long as he doesn't kill you behind the plate, the offensive output and upside is so much greater than most others that play the position. He still has issues and is far from perfect, but on balance he benefits the team far more than he hurts them.

He is a candidate to DH or play 1b. He has the ability to play better but seems to lack focus or something.

kraken just took 39 seconds to go from home to home for his getty goner.
even if he is timed with an hour glass, I want his stick.

On cue Sanchez with first inning home run. Takes 40 seconds to round bases all the time looking around and mumbling under his breath. IMHO he has some type of mental issue which would explain his lack of hustle, and lack of baseball smarts and instincts.

Is this post serious? Mental issue?
You’re a better poster than this.

Sanchez throws out second base stealer of the game. But typically thinks it's the third out and starts for the dugout. I'm just amazed that he knew to throw the ball to second base and not put it in his pocket.

I didn’t realize you were Jerome from Manhattan. Hope all is well. Haven’t heard you call into the FAN in ages.

Why? You don't think there are any professional athletes dealing with varying degrees of mental health issues just like the rest of the population. It's my opinion and is not meant to disparage Sanchez in any way, shape or form. In fact many athletes have come forward and admitted to various social disorders such as anxiety issues and fear of flying (the hoop player first round draft pick that has lawsuit vs NBA), pitcher Zach Grienke (spelling) admitted to issues. Ever hear of Jimmy Piersall?

Thank for your taking a serious tone here. Yes athletes have mental issues. More and more are coming forward and it’s good it’s getting attention. The reason they are is to show fans they aren’t immortal. But equating a lack of hustle to a mental issue is pretty random and stupid if you ask me. It came across as disparaging to me. Rip his bonehead plays sure. But to say it’s a mental issue it didn’t look right to me.

It's more than lack of hustle. It is constant mistakes on the base paths, forgetting how many outs, etc. I am not going to try and diagnose him but maybe something like a touch of ADD. Look IMHO that would help explain things more than just calling him a jerk. That IS my opinion, you don't have to agree with me. PS been my opinion since last year. Mike Tyson took and was prescribed anti-psychotic medication and so have other athletes and it becomes a fine balance between addressing mental health and affecting athletic performance.

Call him a jerk. That I have no issue with. I call of plenty of ppl jerks!

I think there is a fascinating double standard for some reason with him. Maybe it’s because his bat is so good and fans want the perfect player. Gleybar has 15 errors this year too. He looks like Cano in the field with his laissez faire approach. Yankees fans genuflect to the gamer Brett Gardner. I like Gardner. But his childish behavior I’d bet those same Sanchez detractors ignore for Brett. Judge hit a massive slump and he was untouchable to most fans.

I’m not a psychologist but I find the Sanchez stuff pretty damn unique.

Oh yea. The team is how many games over 500? As Jay Z said I have 99 problems but Gary Sanchez isn’t number 1. Or 2 or 3 etc.

Now Urshela is banged up. Next man up

Moose for 2nd time, i hate to correct you again, but it's Jerome from the Bronx, get it right the 3rd time you mention him. Lol

And wtf is going on with the yanks, didi hitting for urshels. Guess he got hurt? Lmfao
Not laughing at his injury, but damn wtf is up with them this year?
Ford and Judge are on freaking fire, another hr for them today.
Lastly, Tylor Wade. They shifted on him, he meant to hit it the other way, and got a double out of his hustle, and stole 3rs on the next pitch. GARY needsto watch that good things happen when you hustle.
Lol why were they shifting on wade to begin with? He's a singles hitter.

Some fans may genuflect at Gardner but plenty have wanted Yanks to move on from him for years. As to his bat banging on the dugout roof I think it is totally immature and to continue it he was acting like a real a hole. I for one have not been harping on any of Sanchez's deficiencies instead I am actually defending his numerous mental mistakes as possibly resulting from issues beyond his control. Just think that you having heard a lot of criticism of Sanchez may be misinterpreting where I am coming from. Not trying to pile on GS.

Probably but Jerome was the Yankees legendary caller. Miss him. I do think he passed away. Funny he was yelling about Cash all those years and Cash is still here. Yankees still winning
