Yankees - 2019

Yanks pick up Tulowitzki for minimum wage (Jays obligated for balance). Nice move IMO.

Agree! I suspect they will also sign Machado for third base and either play Andujar at first or trade him.

I've resigned myself to the fact they will trade Andujar. I hate it but if it nets you a #1 or #2 then gotta do it.

Tulo for 500k is such a shrewd Cashman move. If healthy he can still hit and Yankees focus on analytics will put him in better positions defensively.

If he can still hit, first base is an option when Didi returns.

He has said he will play SS, 2B or 3B but doesn't want to be a utility player. Not sure what that means exactly.

He is under team control. He will play where he is told to play. He seems to have a good attitude so I don't think it will be a problem.

To be fair control might not be the best word. He will be making MLB minimum and no skin off Yankees back's if and when they decide to dump him.

Hes a veteran so learning a new position is hard enough let alone multiple positions so I can see why he might say what he did. Something will shake out before Spring Training and we'll see who is on squad and where the pieces all fit.

Gray gone to Reds in 3-team deal.
It seems like not much of a return - some lo level prospect named Josh Stowers. Shed Long goes to Seattle and Reds also get P Reiver Sanmartin.

Gray's stock sure dropped. .

Great job by Cashman trading 3 high level prospects for gray and turning him around for a midland prospect and a midland draft pick.

They were just dumping his salary and getting rid of him. Hard to criticize most of Cashman's moves the last two years. He pretty much rebuilt the team. Much more fun team to watch.

Mariano Rivera elected to the Hall of Fame. First player EVER elected unanimously!

I'm a yankee fan so congrats to Mariano. As to being the first unanimous selection that makes it sound like he is the best ever which obviously he is not. All it does is point to the absurdity of players like Ruth, Williams, Mays, Aaron, Koufax and others not also being voted in unanimously.

True. There will probably more unanimous inductees in the future.

I'm sorry I must have missed the amazing success Kapreliian, Mateo and Fowler have had.

Haven't followed their results so far but they were all young and even if they haven't done anything and haven't even played a game that is more of a contribution than Gray made to the Yankees. Maybe they could have been used in another trade to actually get a useful player or maybe a roll of tape or something.

Maybe
But can't pick apart every trade especially when they haven't panned out. Most prospects don't.

Kaprellian is 24 and has thrown under 30 innings in his minor league career
Mateo hit 230 was caught on half his SB attempts
And Fowler will never be more than a 4 OF and coming off a horrific knee injury when they traded him.
Sonny sucked at home but his road splits were very good as a Yankee.
If anything Cash hurt his leverage with his comments likely after the year.

Not down on Cashman just didn't like this trade but I guess it is hard to predict who might not be able to handle NY. It has happened before to the Yanks and Mets. Most athletes say being on the field is a respite from problems and they feel in their element when they are on the field performing so I have a hard time understanding how some guys just seem to choke while playing for a NY team and perform well for other teams. I get that they feel pressure but after a while you are out there on the field just play the game you have played all your life.

Cashman blew the return on this trade by saying so early that Gray would be traded.
