Nothing to do with that. I root for St.John's going back to Lapchick. Coaches come and go. All you can do is hope they do well. Mullin is probably my all time favorite but I have no idea if he will be a great coach with St. John's.
First he needs to get the players and then in a few years we will see.

First, I suggest you write this year off. Second you are correct re Looie. I think a better term would be perennial top 25 contender, i.e. being in the top 25 nearly every year AT SOME POINT IN TIME. From the year's 1976 - 2001, over 25 seasons, STJ was ranked at some point in the year 80% of the time. (FYI I am aware that this goes beyond Looie but it's pretty much the "glory years" current fans under 70 pine for) That would be a decent benchmark to shoot for. I'm pretty sure in the 80 s they only had top 20 , not 25. There were years that we finished right outside the top 20, but we're not ranked.

That's a very good point. But being ranked is being ranked. Back in the 80's no one took mid majors seriously either.
