@Xavier, Wed., Jan. 31, 6:30p, FS-1

What surprising to me is that we are scratching and clawing for every bucket as most of our offense, minus a pick and roll here and there is a one on one move. I expected a Rich Pitino team to be like a well oiled machine shredding defenses but it has been anything but. In fact I will stand by the thought that while the D has improved, our offense has regressed. Hopefully either the offense gets better or certain individual players hit their offensive stride.
Not a 50 game season, they better hurry up & at very least defend every game w right effort

As pissed as anyone following yet another excruciating loss, but for anyone now saying we’re barely a bubble team just because we lost on the road in Xavier when as of this morning we were an 8-9 seed in every bracket is silly. Even saw someone claim we’ll need to win two BET games just to get in, which is a silly take. Sweep Georgetown and DePaul, split the rest and we won’t even be sweating come Selection Sunday.

Seton Hall sucked until Willard bought out Isiah Whitehead’s high school coach and you are now on the borderline of irrelevancy again. No one cares about South Orange, New Jersey. You, too, are apparently so bored with your own team that you feel the need to weigh in here on a game your team wasn’t even playing. Sad.
Not at all. Family members who went to
St. John's. A fan who enjoys the BE competition and insights. No need to be so critical.

Completely disagree Matt. You are assuming that a sweep of the two bottom feeders is a given and that we will beat three of Marquette, PC or Butler on the road or The Hall, Creighton or UConn at home. That’s a big assumption the way this team is currently playing.

We don’t have a point guard. The only drive and kick we got all night was from the kid with the worst handle of our guards, Alleyne, to someone in the corner and it was a miss.

We also don’t have a defense that can create fast breaks like typical Pitino teams.

Next year should be a very different story.

In the post game press conference, pitino says its hard for rj cause he doesnt practice.

Is luis just suiting up on gameday and never practicing w/ the team?

How do you see next year as different? To date, Wilcher has not shown he will be that much of a contributor and as far as I know as of now there is no other pg on the team. We will lose an automatic double double in Soriano and the rest of the holdovers don’t include a consistent scorer. You are going to miss Jenkins more than u think. 🤪

Pitino is playing an injured player and it was obvious looking watching Luis tonight.
He's not what cost us the game.
What killed us tonight was allowing the X guards to run a muck. Pitino needs to explain "starting" Simeon and giving him just THREE MINUTES. He needs to explain Taylor’s role in this game with ZERO points on only two feeble attempts.
He needs to explain why a high energy guy on defense sits when X is small up front and no attempts are made to go big and inside with Soriano and Zuby.
I'm hoping I'm missing the bigger picture with Rick's substitution "experimentation" and see it pay dividends against Uconn.

Thus the importance of the transfer market and NIL.
Because this is no longer the college basketball of the past, you will never know what the following year brings.
Schools paying their players ridiculous NIL will always be able to keep players 2-3 years but assume uncertainty for St. John's and similar teams.

Yeah buddy, but only because we started 4-1, but guess what? If we lose to UConn we'll be 5-6, but oh yeah yeah, we're looking fantastic.
I hate positive only people. Oh everything is great. Uh huh.

Correct but the transfer portal works in both directions and if you look at the posts prior to the season, you would have thought we assembled an all star team. With the way the team has been going, I expect we may lose a few players as well as gaining some. However, what I do believe is that if you live and die by the portal as your main source of talent that won’t work and we’ll always be hearing how the team won’t come together till late Jan or February. Pitino must build with a core of kids to minimize having to re install his offense and defensive system annually.

Likewise - great to see Johnnies, an original member of the BE, competing again.
How welcoming of you Orville.

Wilcher is a freshman. He should get wayyyyy better next year. It would be odd if he didn’t.

Pitino always learns and adapts. This team has given him a lot to learn from. He’ll be dangerous in the portal.

Fair enough. I refuse to quit on this team. That’s just me.
I never intimated you or anyone else should “quit” on the team, whatever that means. But we were in this game primarily due to two players, one of whom played half a game, and one of whom has been criticized, as usual, for missing a perfectly legitimate shot after almost solely keeping us in the game with great shooting. I don’t praise a team for coming back from a double digit deficit caused primarily by not coming to play AGAIN. I have rooted for this team for decades and will continue to but I refuse to acknowledge teams for fight and heart because they decide to play hard 8 of the last 10 minutes of a game and then again show their true colors by being steamrolled 13-2 after coming back to tie.

I don´t think that is hate.
Perhaps the comments that he is a NBA player (after averaging 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds for a team that was 6-12 in the A10) were a little excessive.
Agree, as is a norm for fans, as many did with this team, expectations for Luis were ridiculous based on nothing but “wishing and hoping”. I give him a pass pretty much and consider it more as a reflection on what this team really is that Pitino needs to try and play a player that essentially can’t practice. Without Jenkins, and to a somewhat lesser degree Soriano, this team is DePaul. I can’t name another player who has provided any consistency. I think the seemingly chaotic substitutions this deep into the season clearly shows that. Pitino is going to try something else, anything else, when guys are just not getting it done.

Dave noted
“St. John's is 7-33 from three over the last two games”.
This is a key figure. I look at our team stats after every game. This number keeps dropping. It was solid at one point and now it's below 33 percent. The Big East is not a great three point shooting conference so far this season and I believe we are now 9th. Jenkins is not the only problem here. Someone/More than one has to step up and hit some threes.

I read a post last week that said, and I paraphrase: 'I don't know what's more annoying, the idiots that non stop trash Jenkins or the posters that respond to it.' I saw myself in this. So from now on: "No comment." I hope this latest dissapoinment doesn't temper the fanbases' Saturday enthusiasm entirely. We're going to have to bring it big time to have any chance at all.
