Pitino's coaching tonight was clearly sub par for a few reasons.
He decides to start Simeon Wilcher and after two quick fouls, basically benches the kid for the game. Lesson??
Started Taylor over Luis and it obviously looked as if it got into RJ's head for all the wrong reasons. Taylor has a negative presence on offense and RJ on defense. Unfortunately, tonight they both played poorly. Pitino may have had better luck playing Traore and going big.
While Dingle is slow on defense, I'm disappointed Pitino hasn't done a better job of integrating him into the backcourt. We spent significant NIL for him to be a bigger part of the offense. Last year at Iona he had Jenkins and Walt Clayton, the best backcourt he's had in a long time, but was not able to get his front line to play consistent ball.
Pitino needs to define his top 7 rotation. He clearly has not to date.
Now, as far as the players are concerned, Joel needs to start games with more cerebral intensity. He tends to lumber early and not demand the ball inside. He still tries to guard guys 20 feet from the basket and is slow to get back down low.
I'm still waiting for Taylor to have even a minimal impact as a scorer! He is the polar opposite of Luis who looks to score 90% of the time he touches the ball.
As for the Uconn game, those assuming a 20 point loss are forgetting we should have beaten them on their court.
We needs everyone to show up and be healthy.
Clearly, Luis and Alleyne are not 100%.
Praying for Brady to start hitting.
