This game will tell us a lot I suspect, if SJU does not rattle X guards and force turnovers, I expect it will be another disappointment. Test #3 following two flameouts v Nova and ISU. Protect home court tonight or they are really making it difficult for themselves.
I am ok with the ISU loss, but the Nova one stings

The Nova loss stings not because we lost, it’s how we lost. If we played really well and lost a tough game I think everyone would be able to accept that but we weren’t even competitive.
So true. Once they blew the lead they never battled in the second half

If they would have come out strong in the second half and lost a nail biter definitely would be thinking differently

I hope this game doesn’t turn out like so many of our games have over the years—Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Leave it all on the court. Now’s the time. No more attention deficit. No more hero ball. Call a freakin’ timeout when it’s needed, not 10 minutes later, or when there are 8 seconds left in the half.

If Anderson doesn't change the starting lineup, and alter his substitution patterns, we have no shot tonight. Even if he does we could still lose, but at least we would have a fighting chance.

I've been doing this for almost a decade and I usually win every season, my thought process is my team is going to lose I might as well profit from it..... I'd love to pay this year if we get into the tournament...
I've bet against SJU, and will continue to do so when it makes sense to me, just not in what is essentially a pick em' game. Not judging, mind you, just sayin'

We a very capable of winning this game. We are very capable of losing this game. Which team shows up? I’ll let you know after the game.

I would assume this will be the good Johnny team as most here have counted them out already. That’s what Anderson’s St. John’s teams have done over the last couple of years. Turn things around when counted out.

I don’t care what Xavier shoots as a team from 3. How they rebound etc. if we play to our potential then they have to deal with us.

Carnasecca arena gives us a much better home court advantage than msg. I’m not betting this game. When I’ve bet for sju to win as a dog lately we lose. And I’ve stayed away as a favorite. Even though I wanted against fsu and DePaul. So I’m staying away. Usually when I’ve stayed away we have won. So……

all I want is real tangible adjustments — and of course a win.

Particularly a concerted effort to drastically cut down on off balance, out of control, rushed shots.

I hear you but I usually try and bet what I believe are important games with a low spread to avoid using the money line, which is why I didn't bet nova game it was minus $230.

Expecting a big crowd tonight, looking forward to the game. Let’s go St. John’s

Random Point:

When/if Pinzon gets on the floor, I would expect him to be a little extra dialed in defensively. My guess is that it's been made clear that his pathway to additional playing time is dependent on being able to contain a ball handler on the perimeter.

On a separate but connected note, whenever we have the fortune of being up by 10 or more, I would be sure to have Storr or Pinzon on the floor. This would be a time when we could grow the lead with some margin for error on the defensive end.

Fun Facts:

Zach Freemantle, who is from my neck of the woods in Jersey, will have a good number of friends and family behind the Xavier bench tonight. He graduated from Bergen Catholic where he and teammate Doug Edert (both 1,000 point scorers) won a Non-Public State Title in their senior year. Freemantle chose Xavier over Penn State, Pittsburgh and Boston College.

While Bergen Catholic is a perennial power house in football, their basketball program has been inconsistent. The biggest name to come out of the program is Sean Banks (Memphis University / Charlotte Hornets) who had legal trouble derail his career.

Us old retired guys hate 9 pm starts. Not only does it keep me up a half hour past my bedtime, it gets me too wound up to go to sleep. But I'll gladly trade a good night's sleep for a win tonight...
Just half an hour, come on fess up?

I hear ya.
If was watching at home I’d be lucky to see second half
