Supposedly having mic on coaches all game tonight. Historically a bad look for St John’s

This could be a good thing for Anderson, but a very bad one if we don’t play well and lose. It will provide insight on what tactical adjustments are made (or aren’t), changes in strategy and how things are handled.

I plan on going to the game but will DVR it to review later (if I cam stomach watching it again).

if I were Anderson would watch Hoosiers and just quote Norman Dale all game. Even if wouldn’t make any sense he would automatically become my favorite St John’s coach.
Btw Coach Dale definitely would play Storr. Jimmy Chitwood was a notoriously bad defender but coach Dale understood to win you have to score.

How do you think we won at Butler last year?

This game will tell us a lot I suspect, if SJU does not rattle X guards and force turnovers, I expect it will be another disappointment. Test #3 following two flameouts v Nova and ISU. Protect home court tonight or they are really making it difficult for themselves.

We will have to play our best game of the year so far to beat these guys. If you look at the two games we played well recently (Depaul & Florida State), we rebounded well, shot well, got to the line and made our free throws and had a good assist to turnover ratio. Also in both games, Jones played under control only taking four threes and rebounded. Xavier is a big step up in competition so we'll need to bring our game. to another level. This game will go a long way towards telling us what kind of season we can expect. Too early to call it a must win game, but needs to be a way better effort than Iowa State & Nova games. Posh needs to play like the Posh we've come to know and love his first two years. Expect to see a solid game plan from the staff and the ability to adjust as necessary. Let's go Johnnies!

I don’t think tonight’s game will tell us anything we haven’t seen for the last 3 and a half seasons.
You could be right, but I am remaining positive till proven otherwise. There is a lot of talent here, just needs to come together, but it is now or never, in my opinion. They need to show up (coaches included).

Just took Xavier -1 for $500, go Johnnie's..... I'm down $1000 ytd so I'm hoping Johnnie's keep beating me....
I wouldn’t have the stomach to make that wager. Then I’m pulling for the other team. Seems counter fandom. But what do I know🤷‍♂️

I disagree on one thing NCJohnnie, I think this is a must win game. If we hope to make the NCAA Tournament then we are going to need 12 wins in conference. In order to do that you have hold home court and then grab a couple on the road. Every game we lose at home it’s one more we have to win on the road and it gets harder and harder with every home loss.

"Stick with your man. If he is chewing gum, by the end of the game, I want to know what flavor it is."

I've been doing this for almost a decade and I usually win every season, my thought process is my team is going to lose I might as well profit from it..... I'd love to pay this year if we get into the tournament...

Loved the movie but coach Dale was a shaky game coach
Calling final play for anyone but Jimmy in the final was horrendous. Thankfully the team mutinied. Also playing with 4 was an unusual strategy to say the least.

I’ll always root like heck for SJU, just wish we had a long term success plan instead of trying to win the next game with smoke and mirrors.

I don’t know if there is really something called a “must win” but this is pretty close to one. I mean Xavier is a well coached, good team. They are not world beaters. They are ranked but have lost to Duke, Indiana and Gonzaga in CLOSE games. They are ranked (#22) but have lost to the “ranked“ teams they have faced.

It’s all set up for us. We are at home. We NEED a good win. We are not going to get that many chances. Lose this one and we are staring at another mediocre to bad Big East season.

Here we are in year 4 of the Anderson regime and we are hoping for a competitive game at home against an Xavier team that has not had any wins against ranked teams as well? That in itself tells you all you need to know about the state of the program.

What happened to the “I’m here to win a National Championship mantra that Anderson proclaimed from Day 1? Here’s hoping that the team starts to perform at a minimal level of expectations against Xavier.

Xavier is ranked 22 and lost close OOC games to Indiana , Duke and Gonzaga , all highly ranked teams. We have beaten New Hampshire , Merrimack and the Blind Sisters of the Poor . Sean Miller , despite his rep on the recruiting side , is a excellent Coach . At Xavier in first go round and then , a very good run at Arizona . I agree winning at home tonight is pretty close to a must have W. Plus , even though it’s a away game for them, beating a ranked team counts in most Stats . It helps us Ranking wise . A loss ? The pretty much puts us in the too horrible to contemplate category with 2 toughies, Marquette and SH next .
