'Jenkins is the most important player for St. Johns. Soriano is their best player but Jenkins is there most important.' 'Jenkins is their team leader and like another coach on the floor.' 'Pitino asks for a lot from Jenkins, and he embraces that role.' - TT

With all the accolades Rick gets as a coach I expected to see a smooth, crisp offense. I don’t see it. Would like to see more back doors, screens for shooters and pick and rolls.

We get nothing off the weave except kill 5 seconds off the clock. Would like to see high, low occasionally with Soriano high (3. Point shooter) and ledlum low. Just want more flow to the offense.

And he shouldn’t be our 2nd best player anyway. One of top 5 yes.
I can make argument he wasn’t Iona 2nd best player last year.
I don’t hate the kid, but I hate his role and his lack of awareness. I’d absolutely love him if he played the 3. This feels like Dom Pointer all over again.

When a player handles the ball as much as him it’s incumbent upon them to be mindful of taking too many shots. I’d cap him at 3-4 shots a half. I have no issue with his passing turnovers.

This has been the biggest surprise to me. We look worse than just about every high major team I’ve seen play this year. Most of our guys have an absolutely no confidence on offense.

If they play the defense the way that they played yesterday, this will be our first BE win of the year.
We fell apart vs. BC and hope we are done with that kind of stuff. Playing good D and not giving
up O boards keeps that kid of stuff from happening. Rick at times does not sound confident. A win vs X men and playing a sound game vs Conn would really be a nice start. Go team.

2 secondary stats I look at: plus/ minus and points per fg attempt.
of the top 6 in minutes in points per fg attempt he’s last,
but jenkins LEADS the team in plus/minus, go figure.

Jenkins leads the team in +/- for two main reasons: (1) he rarely plays with the second unit and (2) nobody knows what to do when he’s out because he only plays two-man basketball when he’s in.

When Jenkins sits the mass substitutions come in. How many games have we been destroyed at the end of the first half?

Offensively, I thought our top 2 scorers next to Soriano going into the year would be Dingle and Luis. That hasn’t happened and our offensive looks outta whack because of it.

I think it’s that simple. I’m sure others felt the same way. Does this make up simps?

Yes who are we to judge a hall of fame national tourny champion, probably considered one of the best coaches at all time. I swear were do some of these posters come from . Are you even watching the same games?

I think over 2 Decades it’s become endemic for fans to suggest new strategies of their own making as if that will help us win games .

We finally have a HOF Coach who everyone begged for and we still want to impose those strategies . Even on RP.

I believe we got caught up in the stats that Dingle and Ledlum put up in the Ivy League and thought we had 2 Impact players . They are nice players but , impact ?

And , once BE play starts . Who knows what they will deliver .

It’s pretty obvious Rick isn’t very happy with team performance to date . Mostly because he feels he’s outgunned in the talent area . More so defensively .

Obviously not having Luis ready to play hasn’t helped. Joel is going to need to bear a lot of the burden , as a result . He’s capable of doing so.

I don’t think any one doubts that Rick’s Christmas list for 2024 will include quicker , more defensive type players . I’m sure there are some bona fide 4-5 stars on that list .

If Ledlum and Dingle were 6/7th off the Bench... we'd be in real good shape with Talent.

Just surprising given Dingle had a couple NBA workouts... right? maybe something clicks... but not seeing what I expected. I was sitting right there where he got stripped at halfcourt vs Fordham... he showed 0 interest in protecting the ball. One possession... but made an impression.

We gotta get this win and start off Big East season strong. We have struggled with Xavier in the past. Because this game is in Queens, may be harder for Xavier so I guess that can be an advantage. If crowd can stay in it can be good.
