Magoon was NOT redshirted for "body development"....SDSU didn't need him because they had Pal (6'9) and LeDee (6'9) up front. He's getting more minutes because those two are gone!

Magoon was UNRANKED by all the major recruiting services.

Vince was a 4 star top 50 recruit for USC......before his near fatal heart episode.
He was rated higher than a guy named Donovan Clingan.

As for Maker, who was offered by a bunch of other power 5 teams, this was the headline in the NY POST:

"Maker’s mark: 2024 four-star center Khaman Maker commits to St. John’s"

What would it look like to future 4 and 5 star recruits if you are correct?????????
Go to play for Rick Pitino and get redshirted and blackballed by a savant named Marillac😉
Thankfully, the thickness of your skull will protect you from your info fail and fall.
Are you still going?😂 Gwath was actually recruited with an ankle injury, needed surgery as soon as he got to campus, and wasn’t ready until January. He was also 180 lbs and needed to gain weight. He was always a redshirt. He was unranked and barely recruited, but will get drafted — perhaps this year — and there isn’t a single coach in the country that would take Vince over him.

The reason for his redshirt is also irrelevant, as your contention was that nobody redshirts in the NIL era and then implied it was because Maker wasn’t good.

We don’t need Maker this year. If you want to say Vince is better right now, I wouldn’t debate it. But Maker’s potential is ridiculous and he will be the better player by next year by a wide margin and he will take off the following year. Hopefully with us. Bookmark this. Screenshot it and rub it in my face if I’m wrong. I won’t be.

My contention is that 4 star players don't need to redshirt to get more playing time because all they need to do is transfer. And, yes, Vince is better right now. Glad you finally agree.
Both Maker and Vince need intense development but in the NIL era there are no guarantees that players buy into the lesson plan.
Vince rushes and forces everything because he is eager to make up for lost time.
If he starts playing more cerebral ball he will be fine at this level.....rather than playing for Iona. Maker is very mechanical and needs better conditioning.
Just hope they stay long enough to meet your expectations.😉😉😉

No idea where that Post headline came from, Maker was a consensus 3 star, average rank was usually between 130-150. He was always a project, cant imagine he was surprised to be redshirted.

Maker is on another planet. If that is not immediately ascertainable to you, then you should find another sport to follow. This is like arguing if the sun will rise tomorrow. Let’s just wait and see the inevitable.

Nobody on this forum is higher on Maker than me, and I’ve been saying for a year that he will not contribute as a freshman. If there is even a 10% chance Maker plays a 5th season, redshirting him is worth it over getting 5 minutes a game now.

Marillac isn’t shy: Maker will win Big East Defensive Player of the Year and get drafted.
They already burned his redshirt by playing him in a game where he only made a cameo appearance.

So not implemented yet but I guess it remains a possibility. If Maker stays 5 years he probably outlasts Pitino.
I don’t think he stays 5 years to be very clear. I think he goes to the NBA before that — and a transfer is certainly possible. But if he wants that 5th year, they are going to get him that 5th year somehow.

We do not need him this year at all. Zuby is playing 30 minutes a game and 35+ when he has to. So if there is any chance at all for a 5th year, just keep the kid under 6-7 games and find an injury in February to shut him down or wait for the rule change and/or everyone being granted a 5th year.

Ledee of San Diego St. averaged 6 minutes per game with several DNPs as a freshman on a bad team and he was only like 6’9. He was an All-American as a senior. Freshman big men usually aren’t ready. That is the rule, not the exception.

You are a funny guy!🤣
Run Forrest Run!

I think you got your Makers confused. This is Khaman.....not Thon.

Of course every SJ fan hopes Marillac is right ...... for once.

Both Vince and Maker need to be sent to the same Big Man camp that Zuby went to this summer.

Marillac typing up a manifesto about how it would be a waste of Maker's time to go to the same camp and get reps going against Vince

I will concede that RJ passes the ball at least 35% of the time when he has no other choice. The other 65% of the time when he has no other choice, not so much. The boy is the reincarnation of Zendon Hamilton as a wing. As the guy across the aisle from me in my old seats at Alumni Hall used to holler every time Zendon touched the ball: "It's going up!"
The difference between this year and last is huge. I agree, he needs to be looking to pass more, but you have to acknowledge real progress. He's finding his teammates. Last year, when he wasn't able to practice with them, he was just doing his own thing. Now that he knows where they will be, passing is a strong option for him. Haven't looked at the stats but I would guess that his assists per game have at least doubled.

Not sure about singling out Glover, Smith is shooting a slightly higher %, Wilcher and Dunlap slighty lower. Obviously all three have more attempts, Wilcher’s and Smith by a factor of 2. Scott and Luis drag the % down as they are 1 and 2 in attempts, Scott 70 to Luis 49.
When we win, I think the shooting percentage is meaningless. I want Scott to keep shooting, even if he keeps missing. It's shooting practice (as long as we are winning) Eventually, he'll settle in.
