Xavier Game

Reading people saying we need to win out and win 1 BE tourney game makes me shake my head. If we win the next 3 games we are a stone-cold lock. Has anyone seen the bubble this year? It's incredibly weak. That being said a 3-0 finish is a big ask starting with a massive game against Xavier. They need it just as bad as we do.

Same thing I've been saying. If we win out, we'll finish 3rd in the BE and should be a lock.

I hope we do too but I've been fearful of Marquette game on the road since we smoked them. Can we go 2-1 and finish 3rd or 4th? That's the question to me.

As I said many times before Marquette can't shoot the ball. Play zone against them, overplay Thomas, their only three point threat.
Their biggies did zelch against us.

Looking at the contenders in the Big East outside of a collapse of one of the teams for the NCAA's
we are looking at all 9 and 9 or 10 and 8 teams. It starts tonight with a huge game Gtown @ Marquette.
This will get the ball rolling. If Hoya's win then they get Creighton to help their resume.
Huge game for Johnnie's tomorrow which will set us up for what is to be.

They are a good match up for us but they are a different team at home. Gotta stay out of foul trouble. Gardner is a master at throwing his arms into the defender and getting the call

Believe it or not Marquette could be the team to collapse . If hey lose tonight to Gtown they go on road to Villanova and Providence then
home against SJU which after 3 loses could be academic.

I don't know about anyone else, but it's these type of discussions & conversations that make college basketball so much fun this time of year. Imagine being a fan of an NBA team that has a chance to win the NBA Title, knowing the Finals aren't till JUNE!!

It is nice to be in the conversation and relevant again for sure.

Yes indeed, and dare I say it. Oh, what the heck, I will. A lot of it is due to Lavin. (ducking) ;)

Best post I've read in some time. I'd add to pressure them all game because they have one of the worst collective handles in the conference and and are very mistake-prone.

If we are even a bubble team this shouldn't be all that difficult. If we can't beat Marquette in a very bad down year with so much riding on it, what chance do we have going in the road a few weeks late away from home in the tournament? Huge RPI game for us.

You hate Marquette.
Any post where you mention them needs to be taken with a grain of salt :)

Hahaha I don't...just this year. Mayo and Jamil Wilson are Domesque. Very low IQ guys. I think the world of Buzz Williams and I was a big fan of the backcourt the last few years. I am probably Junior Cadougan's biggest/only fan. They'll be back big next year so we need to capitalize now.

The team I hate is Nebraska. I don't even know why, but it makes me sick to see them above us in the RPI and them drawing over 15k every game. I refuse to accept them as a Big Ten school.

Creighton needs to stomp them the next few years to maintain top team in that region.

I actually dont think derrick willson is any worse than Junior Cadougan. Every time I see him he is making plays. Now he cant shoot a lick, but he can defend, finish, and pass.

His shooting kills his team. Boothe at his worst was a better shooter. Cadougan just had all the intangibles. He never put up big stats, but he was smart, crafty, tough, and clutch. I can't believe he didn't get a look in the NBA... I would have spent a late second rounder on him.

Who will be the bigges star at MSG tomorrow night? Why, the ref who tossed Jim Boeheim, of course (Lavin and the team also menitoned in a bullet further down in this article):

Meanwhile, Greene will be back to work Tuesday night at St. John's. Ideally, he'd like to enter the building unnoticed and leave the same way. He may get back to that point eventually, but it's going to take a while. Like the man said: It's all part of the job.

Really interesting. He hasn't reffed an SJU game in a long long time. In fact he's not even known really as BE ref. More ACC and SEC based.

From the same article, here's Seth's prediciton:

Xavier at St. John's, Tuesday, 7 p.m., Fox Sports 1

This game is mighty bubblicious. Xavier seemed to have righted its ship before getting its doors blown off at Georgetown on Saturday. As I noted above, this is the start of a brutal four-game finish for the Musketeers. St. John's is a much improved, more mature team than it was a month ago. Plus, the Red Storm will welcome back senior forward Orlando Sanchez, who missed the Villanova game to attend to the birth of his daughter.

St. John's 70, Xavier 59

I wonder why he's doing a BE game? I thought he NCAA preferred to keep refs in the same league, or two.

Don't know.
He did do two Xavier games (1 in Bahamas) and a Gtown game this year.

@StJohnsBBall: .@SJUCoachLavin said Rysheed Jordan in Phil today for the viewing of a close relative who passed away. Jordan will rejoin #sjubb tonight.

@StJohnsBBall: Lavin & Jordan will meet, assess "right thing to do" for Xavier. "Difficult time" for a young man who has experience so much loss. #sjubb

@StJohnsBBall: Lavin said @obekpa12 is on the mend and is 8.5 out of 10, health-wise. "He looked good, not 100 percent but encouraging." #SJUBB
