Xavier - 2nd Game

Post game Lav seems very confident about his job

He should, much to the dismay of albano, otis, lawmanfan and friends.
They'll get to eat their cake next year.
Too bad they'll never enjoy his team, my all time favorite.

Bittersweet feeling, I'm only 17 and I fear I may never love a SJU squad more than these guys lol.

JayOn returns with some dirt on Lav:

@JayOn_1: Calls the TO's so he can get the game back where it's slow enough for him to understand whats going on. Im dead serious. I heard him say it

Do us all a favor please?
Don't post his tweets.
Let him play with albano and smith.

"I heard him say it." Pure B.S.

Played poorly and still won.
Gut check. Boxers check.
Even with Stainbrook spin flop and tackling of CO.

Whew.

Nice work fellas!

I'm worn out after that

Agreed. Was reaching for the "in case of emergency only" blood pressure pills. Thankfully, I ingested them in time ... but more thankfully, what a great win! Love these kids!

I'm 49 Jack and Ive been rooting for the Johnnies for 36 years now. There are four or five teams that were really special to me. I too admit though, as frustrating as this team to watch sometimes, the way they can look so damn good and then play so poorly, they have an amazing amount of heart and toughness and they're really starting to grow on me. I agree with Vaccaro also, if this team makes the tournament, they can make a run. There is such parity right now in college basketball outside of Kentucky. If this team winds up in a favorable bracket where the match ups are right for them, they make a nice run.

Lavin is an artsy type as a coach...has great tone with his players, and he "feels" more than uses numbers and x/o's probably. But I don't care. It is who he is, and he often seems to get his teams playing better late in a season, so it's possible he takes time to figure out his own team, but his process is his process. I want him to succeed here, period.

Case in point, post-game interview, Dom mentioned how they missed their first few shots, and then Lav drew up a play for HIM...think about that...this is Dom's team now. And Lav recognizes it. And he challenged Dom appropriately in the offseason. Maybe the slicksta can even coach a li'l?

Sir Dom is seriously playing on a genius level right now. He's Mozart, Einstein, Miles Davis out there right now. Even as someone who defended his game these past few years, what he's doing now is simply unreal. If they can win a game or two in the tourney (get that G'Town win!), the whole country may know of him by the end of March.

Lastly, again...Rysheed had six assists, and no turnovers (last game 6/1)...I really hope this improvement is something he builds on for another year HERE. But his play of late has been critical. He's playing within the framework now, not pushing it nearly as much...making some clutch plays late, etc.

Wish I could have watched this entire game, but I do want to retain my youthful face. :) Sounds like this one was nuts.

Man we don't make things easy, but I love these kids so much. I am kind of sad to see them all go. I feel like since they have all played so many minutes for 4 years that I have watched even more of them than that. I am of the belief one more win from anywhere and we dance, but let's beat Gtown, lock it up, play for a good seed, and get revenge on Gtown. I do not want these seniors losing their last MSG home game to the hated Hoyas.

LOVE Jordan, my favorite player.

I don't think we played badly. This was an entertaining, dog fight. We looked like world beaters when we came back 11 down, but momentum changes. DLO looked great. But, Dom, again MVP of the game. He did everything. He is also my MVP for the year. Jorden also looked good , had 5 or 6 assists w no turnovers and played team BB.

They have the hearts of lions and they are a tough group. I agree with Vaccaro, if they make the NCAA's, and get in to a bracket with favorable match ups, this team can make a nice run.

Great post. Even though no one can convince me some of those timeouts were good, Lavin overall has done an excellent job with the team this year. I still think the guy has weakness in his coaching style, such as halfcourt offensive sets, but he's handled this team well.

As for rysheed, I agree again, and would like to add that those two shots he hit on fast break late and that pass he made to Dom on the fast break late were all huge plays. The first one he adjusted himself mid air to avoid a charge. Second one he made a crazy circus shot off the glass.

Another thing I want to point out tonight, is I thought Chris obekpa played a phenomenal game. Off the charts. So good on defense, and made a great dunk late.

Great team win, great grind it out win, and one that signals this team can make it to the NCAAs

It was nuts and a really great win. Team kills you at times, has me screaming and crying, but you just cannot question their heart and balls. Harrison plays a weak first half and then carries us in the 2nd. While I don't know if I would compare Pointer with those you mention he is a poor mans Scottie Pippen and that ain't bad. I think a legitimate candidate for BE POY.
