Xavier 1st Game

Steve Lavin just called Chris Obekpa's injury a "high ankle sprain." Sounds iffy for Xavier on Saturday, too #sjubb

Chris is not a player that is going to drive to the rim or take someone off the dribble we need him for part if the game to just rebound

If it is a high ankle sprain I would expect him to miss more than Xavier or if he does play he will be very very limited and may be more of a liability than an asset

I really believe we can take Xavier, especially if we play similar to our away game at Providence. However, without Obekpa will be extremely difficult. And if Lavin plays Balamou, instead of Amar then it probably won't lead to a victory.

DAMN! Can't catch a break.

Wonder if Balamou getting more playing time, right before Lavin going to see Diallo is coincidental.

He's playing out of necessity. He plays much bigger than his height of 6'3/6'4.

High ankle sprains can be bad news. I hope his is not as bad as the ones I've suffered or his season is screwed.

It figures, we never catch a break. What I want to see if any Xavier players shoot the ball after a whistle. I have seen that done many a time. I want to see if the refs are so quick to call a technical on the other team as they are on st johns. Please dont tell me there isnt some animosity toward st johns or harrison by the refs because I see it every game

Game Saturday at 12:30pm - TV WNYW Ch 5

Let's go Redmen!

we are going to need some decent minutes from JDR in this game for defense and rebounding and to bang Stainbrook around a little.

Agree that we need to at least try JDR for a while. Obviously he is less athletic than both Amar and Felix but he is huge and can try to push a big outside a little as well as set some picks.

JDR could be helpful against Xavier (4 - 5 minutes), but Amar is the guy. He is not as big, but his skill level is well beyond that of JDR.

Of course his skill level is higher. But JDR's weight could help. Amar will also get into foul trouble quickly if asked to guard big guys as he is extremely aggressive.

Of course it would be great if CO could come back healthy versus Xavier, but we have been successful the past two games just playing the best 5 players.

Positions are overrated and the idea of having a 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 is a pipe dream for a lot of teams in the big east. What we do know is that Xavier has 2 quality big mean that are a) efficient offensively b) bangers on the boards and c) susceptible to foul trouble. That's the bad news, the good news we know guard orientated teams have beaten them recently.

Personally, I think a focused Jordan and a strong effort from Phil is more important than the return of CO.
