who will be the new coach

curve ball- Mr. Vitamin Water opens his checkbook and we might be all happy with his horse loving buddy. If it happens remember where you heard it first.

My list would be in order

1. Mullin
2. Cluess
3. B Hurley
4. D. Hurley (I just get the feeling he is destined for his alma mater - SHU)

I'd be okay with any of the 4. I like the idea of SJU guys knowing what the school i sall about. As I've mentioned before, a HC is of a marquee sport is the face of the university. He is an ambassador for the school, and the success of the program will drive student applications. Mullin is the best choice in that regard. He wears St. John's like a glove.

Cluess will win here as he's won everywhere. He's an intense coach, as are the Hurleys. He played here, lives here, is highly principled and possesses ethics, and the fans will grow to love him.

Both Hurleys have short resumes. I wouldn't expect that either have a high regard for SJU - either the school nor the program. I couldn't see either bleeding red and white or becoming the face of the school, but I could see them winning here. Bobby is a HC for 2 years and has one NCAA. Danny hasn't been to the dance.

Completely agree.

Danny Hurley. He has the niece metro background, already has connects through his dad and his time at St. Benedicts, has gotten top 100 recruits at URI, has name recognition. I think he is the way to go.

Hanging Curve ball, Elder Pitino isn't coming.

I seriously thought he was referring to Bobby Hurley, who like Repole, owns a stable and is a horse racing nut.

I thought he was talking about Horse loving Mike Jarvis :)

Just something about College Basketball and Thoroughbred Horse Racing. They just go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly!

Hire Pete Rose. He loves horses and winning even more.

I'll lay 3-1 that he would take the job.

We're getting Todd Pletcher?

Mr Google, you are quickly rising as a must read on this site

Lavin deserves credit from taking us from abysmal to mediocre ..Yes, mediocre

Low 20's in wins and 5th place finishes are not sterling results. Not keeping the Roster replenished and competitive each year is not building a Program.

On to the next Coach. Mullin, the 2 Hurleys and, unless 2 legends, Pitino, SR or Donavan, would take Repole horses instead of cash, the odds are 50 to 1.

Massiello and Cluess are not bad Coaches but, if we now want to move beyond mid -tier BE , a High Impact Coach is the way to go.

I don't agree that Lavin was the only hope for next year and saving 1 Recruit, Sampson or, getting another, Diallo. If both prospects are smart, they should wait until the new COACH speaks with them.

I'm not sure why so many thought only Steve could hold it together for next year? I find it unbelievable that some fans even would consider CO back. He disgraced the team, school and himself. His indiscretion was ill timed and conceivably deliberate.

Jordan is likely gone regardless.

Watching all the NCAA games, shows me how valuable the 7 foot, 260 pound, rebounding and scoring big man are in today's game. Xavier, Wisconsin, Gonzaga,Kentucky, Duke. etc. Maybe the Greek kid is this type of player for us to build on.

CO was never that type player. Rarely got the put back or offensive rebound. And, he wasn't able to muscle some of these other School players. He had his 1 skill, shot blocking and wasn't going to get more.

Lavin had no plan for the 5 year player that can be valuable for a team and, he still seemed limited in the net of recruiting all the same type slashing players of mid level size. Opinions have surfaced that he really never recruited the METRO area KIDS and, had an attitude in not doing so ? St JOHN'S should not ignore local school kids..

i am hopeful we make a good decision in selecting the next Coach. We need someone capable of taking us from mediocre to contending... Many others, not just me, felt that Steve was not the guy to get us there. He wasn't up to it. The ADMINISTRATION seemed to feel the same.

How can you have Pecora on this list? He got fired from Fordham. You can't bring is someone who got canned at Fordham to coach this team.

Instead of worrying about Pecora on the list worry about the 4 nuts that voted for him

I think Danny Hurley is the clear #1 choice. I'd take him yesterday. He turns programs into winners. Zags tweeted this, "Getting back to Dan Hurley, the guy coach St. Benedict's Prep for 9 years going 223-21. Knows all the AAU guys & is a killer recruiter."

DANNY HURLEY. LET'S NOT SCREW THIS UP!

Just to be clear, I didn't vote for Pecora. I'm still holding out hope for Isaiah Thomas.

And if it doesn't?

can't go down from Lav....Either we land Mullin, or safe bet is Danny Hurley. other than that, trouble. If they hire Mass, i become a Duke fan...lol, who am i kidding...pain.....

I am not sure if that's a compliment. Not looking to steal the "spotlight" from few that are desperately looking for one on this forum.
I would like to open few more dirty topics but I feel that I might have a lawsuit coming :)

While we are on lawsuit topic: someone e-mail the AD and ask him how he's planning to defend the lawsuit he received from a recent firing of a coach (no not Lavin) for wrongful unjustified termination.
