Who do you think the staff will sign next?

I can understand concerns.... Really I can. But some of y'all worry about this stuff far too much.

It's still September. We still have plenty of time to bring in a decent class. Just allow things to play out before going cuckoo at every turn.

I'm ready for November, so the games can begin.

My best guess is that the staff will target Adonis, Rodriguez or some juco players with two of the ships in order to get some size and skill. And they will hold the at least one ship for a transfer, decommit, or even a late bloomer. The transfer game is humongous in college ball, maybe one of these days we will be the beneficiaries of a player winning an appeal and being able to play right away. We know full well that plenty of players leave the metropolitan area for school.

I hate to admit it, but I would love for us to target Michael Chandler. He is the kind of big that we need to bring in. Although his JC numbers have not been great, he was highly ranked coming out of HS. I suspect that grades may still be an issue for him.

MC is an intriquing prospect. I have to ask how such a talented player could put up such bad numbers at JC.

Well, he's eligible, so his GPA has to be at least 2.0. And once a kid enters JUCO, are his high school grades still in the equation for the NCAA?

Happens all the time, especially with big men. It shouldn't be a shock to anyone if he puts up much better numbers this season.

Yes think we should have recd a verabal from 1 2014 player What does that mean that we have all these offers out there and no verbals Maybe nothing or perhaps we are not viewed as many on this board will like us to be?
Also losing IW hurt Maybe we should have stayed on top of him more

Had nothing to do with it...they leveraged his status to get his coach a job...there is a reason the big schools that offered him were no longer under consideration...none of them were going to make him the face of the program and none of them were going to yield to any demands related to a position for his coach...

His coach only had value (and marginal at best) for a local program and SHU was (and is) the most desperate and had already demonstrated that they would barter

My choice would be Tim Cluess before he gets too old. Can't see Lavin hanging in w/o any quality recruits.

Good point. I've waited way too long as a St Johns fan for quality recruits. Let's get that Iona guy who gets all those transfers from other schools :eek:hmy:

It is my understanding that only his academic record as a JUCO determines his eligibility at a four year school
Having said that, I think that Chandler and Wood are intriguing JUCO prospects to consider

Thankfully your hiatus has not changed your posting style.

So i just realized that Cheick Diallo has a twitter (although he's not active) but in his last tweet around a month ago he asked fans if he should reclassify to 2014.

I really hope he does that

Correct.

Chandler is a big body, skilled offensively inside, and a former top 50-75 recruit. From what I saw of Wood almost two years ago was a kid with NBA potential if he could add strength and do everything right off the court. His shot is sweet and his ability to score off the bounce is very uncommon these days. He's also a super athlete. Then there is Morris, who is your prototypical JUCO gunner. The kind of kid that steps on campus and automatically average s10-15 points per game and has opposing fans wondering why they never kept tabs.

I think we add one at least one of the JUCOS above and also a transfer. The transfer game is huge for us this year.

I think we have a much better chance at him if he stays to '15.

From everything I know, he has never even been on our campus. And, we'd have more time to establish a relationship with him. I expect us to have a successful year this season and if we're able to have him visit at a big game at MSG, that bodes well for us.

And if Obekpa shows a lot of improvement this year, that would give Diallo more reason to come here. Possibly using the Whitesell factor saying we have this great big man coach.

Plus, we could also grab one of his '14 OSNA teammate this year.

I think this year is like a blank slate for us. We're being picked 6th and 7th because no one realizes how good we are. We lost countless games last year because we had no offensive gameplan, D'Lo was suspended, Orlando was denied, Gift was redshirted, Branch was hurt, terrible PG play and no outside shooting. Every single area was addressed this spring/summer.

I think Lavin's playing with house money right now. He just has to let the dust settle on the IW fiasco that made him look kind of foolish. But I see this playing out a lot like the 2010 season.

Tremendous post.

Good post. But I disagree with you on your statement about Lavin playing with house money. He is not, at least not with us fans. The national media gets bits a pieces about this team. But for all of us how follow this team closely know the talent is there to be a top 3 in the conference, and a tourney team. Make no mistake, I am very pro-Lavin, and I beileve the folks here getting thier underpants twisted over recruiting are foolish.

But I expect a very good season this year. I expect this team to rise a become one of the linchpin programs of the new BE, pure and simple. With the talent Lavin has brought in, and will continue to bring in (not to mention adding a very capable assistant), it would be aiming very low to think differently.

I read that it is now 2.5. His uncle said that he is not taking any visits because he is focusing on his grades. While that is admirable, it hints that he may be borderline.
