Whitehead Knew Lavin was gone?

When I blow out the candles at my upcoming birthday, I'm going to wish that I never see Lavin's name -- whether it's in a positive or negative perspective -- on redmen.com ever again. :(

That would be a wasted wish. Wish for something more likely to happen. ;)
...like Slice and Matt marrying and adopting a baby together.

Tough visual there Red! :)

Have you seen Slice's fiancée? I doubt he would give her up for Matt.

For those watching the halftime show of the Seton Hall vs Villanova game, did you notice a strange exchange when Lavin, Donny Marshall, and Rob Stone were sitting on the floor and they led by talking about the later game on FOX for the PAC 12 Championship game which is being played in Vegas. Stone mentioned something about Vegas being a beautiful city to reside, followed by an uncomfortable pause in which Lavin said, "you guys are trouble". Could an Obekpa and Lavin reunion be in the cards.

I saw that and was wondering what they were talking about. Did not make the CO connection. Interesting.

Strange and Fox go hand in hand. Coverage is borderline embarrassing with some of the questions and exchanges. Did you see Lavin and DSR the other night too?

Come on guys, you may not like Lav but his announcing/analysis is far better than most in college basketball.
So he picked against SHU because they were young. He was wrong in his prediction and had a little fun with it the next game.

The we get Donny Marshall who would rather talk about what it was like when he played basketball than to talk about the game at all trying to poke and prod at Lav. Neither Whitehead nor Lav took the bait and they had a laugh instead of caring about a recruitment that happened two years ago.

I did and was thinking the same thing. Lavin in the interview with Smith-Rivera said something about Smith-Rivera becoming a coach, when it's clear the kid is concerned about further his playing career, and he didn't even know how to respond. Then the host at the end made an awkward comment about Smith-Rivera's tattoos. Ugly

Believe it or not Lavin is respected in quite a few circles, just not with certain folks here.

At the end of the day, respected and undoubtedly deservedly so in some circles, for whatever reason Lavin did not WORK and earn his money at SJU and nothing can change that.

Believe it or a not a lot of people fall for ponzi schemes and dump money into Pyramid businesses. How many people sent their bank account information to Nigerian princes.

I at one point was on board the Lavin Express. But I quickly found out how much of a fraud he was.

I too was a big Lav fan. I still think he's one of the best recruiters out there when he wants to be. However a horrible game coach. He succeeds with top level talent because even poorly coached, their talent will win games. That only goes so far though. As seen by results.
I think he is a sincere and nice guy, and has knowledge of the game. That doesn't make him a good coach though. He is better suited to be on TV or as an associate Head coach where his recruiting skills would be extremely useful.
I personally don't hold any grudges or animosity to him as some do. I like him as a person. He brought our dormant program back to some prominence. It was a good thing for him to go though. We will be a better program then we ever were or would've been under Lavin

To further that point, there are still a lot of people who respect Mike Jarvis.

As much as I think he did not deserve the $2 mm or so that he was earning and releasing him was not a bad thing, he did achieve what many intelligent basketball people thought was completely impossible - returning our program to relevancy. However much a monumental achievement that was, once accomplished, he had to build a sustainable winning program. He failed, maybe out of laziness, but very few of us really know how lazy, except for recruiting failures. Those who cite how little he was around SJU, (and only a very few fans know that as gospel truth) have no idea how little Mullin is on campus either. It's a new era, and the transitional Lavin era is over. I do hate the continual slamming of him even if I feel his firing was justified.

Was coach of 2nd best ST John's team of my lifetime so I don't have the hatred of him that most do. Likewise Lavin was moderately successful so I don't hate him either. Neither was a good coach but as a fan of ST John's basketball I grade with a tremendous curve.

If you hate the continual slamming then don't write posts defending him or praising him in any way shape or form. You and others bring it upon yourselves by writing inviting posts.
You agree he didn't deserve his salary.
You agree releasing him was the right thing.
You agree he failed.
You agree as to his recruiting failures.
You don't deny that he was not on campus.

What more proof do you need, in your own words the man was a failure.
Forget the fact that he left the most barren roster that the good lord could have created.

Out of respect to you and others I could pick apart your post line by line but I too want to move forward and have and will refrain. I strongly suggest everyone do the same and avoid praising and defending him in order to avoid posters like myself posting in response.

Last point, I could care less how much time Coach Mullin is on campus, because we do know he is at Christ the King, St. Raymonds, OSNA, St. Benedicts, Athletes Institute, Jefferson, and on and on, which is where he and staff should be. Places that were foreign to the former staff.

....let's see.... go to clipboard....now where is that sentence I saved....the one that riles everyone up....brings chaos to the board.....hahahaha....there it is!

"I liked Lavin and thought he did some good things while he was here."

Jeesh! I can't believe one full year into Mullin's tenure here, and some guys are still bringing up Lavin.

You guys need to let it go! It's the past;it's not our future. Stop focusing on what was and start focusing on what could be.
