Which Was the First St. John's Game You Went To?

This is one of the best threads that I have read in the two years that I have been posting. It made me think of the one time I went to the Carrier Dome in either 1989 or 1990. We got killed and me and my friends stood until St. John's scored a basket. It felt like forever.

Thanks, it's definitely been interesting hearing all of these stories.

First game was vs Georgetown, 1984 I believe. I remember David Wingate kicking the ball into the stands, or was it Reggie Wiliams

My first game and well first post (maybe). St. Johns vs Seton Hall in 91 or 92. It was a game at the Garden that by my hazy recollection went into overtime maybe double OT. Terry Dehere was just hitting big three after big three. The ended up losing. It was a great game though. Being a 14 or 15 year old kid the best part was the crowd afterward. There was a lot of ribbing going on. While I was in the bathroom I just remember a St Johns fan going "go back to the f*ckin swamp"

Wish I could find the box to remember it a little better

Don't remember the exact game(s) but became a season ticket holder at 5. Dad dragged me to games when I was old enough to know what was going on. First players I remember were Albie Schwartz, the McIntyre brothers, then a few years later, Rudy Bogad, Pete LaMantia, Jimmy Smyth. My birthday is Jan. 5, signifying my lifelong devotion to Redmen (yes, it is Redmen) basketball.

Lamantia have a son who played for Holy Cross high school?

Yes, Peter.

Or the year Kevin Williams threatened to kick Patrick Ewing into the stands :)

I played against him in high school. Good player. I think he went to Princeton?

1992 at the garden vs a top 5 (i think) Kentucky team featuring monster Mashburn. He had a horrid game, but we couldn't get the W.

I think you are correct. There was another player from Floral Park, Richie (?) Rizzuto, who I think also went to Princeton. His dad player for years in town with some of the former college players - Hank Cluess, Tommy Deluca, George Bruns and Richie Lyons (on accasion), and a few others. The elder LaMantia, even at 50, could shoot the eyes out of the basket - bottom of the net on almost every shot 30 feet and in.

1965 Fordham v St Johns on the Rose Hill campus. Fordham won the game. Fordham scored 61 points and as I left the campus they rang a bell 61 times. Lapchick was the coach and Lou the assistant. McIntyre brothers were on the team and Sonny Dove too the best I recall

My first one was at the Meadowlands in '88 in a win against SH in Shelton Jones' senior year. I went to SJU the following year and while I went to all the games in '88/89, the early MSG ones stick out for me. I was at the holiday tournament games sitting first row under the basket, including the one against Ohio State where that little guard hit everything he put up (Jay something...he was the one who had some nasty neck Injury later that year).

And, I'll never forget my first MSG game vs. a BE opponent. It was vs. Syracuse, who I believe was highly ranked, and we somehow pulled it out with Matt Brust hitting big shots. I was sick as a dog that day, but no way I was missing that game. The Garden was crazy and as loud as ever.

I was at that game (Meadowlands) also. As mentioned I'm from northern NJ went to every game SJU played in NJ after becoming a fan than move to S Fl and went to every game they played at Miami. Unfortunately it's been a long time since I've seen a live game.
