Which Was the First St. John's Game You Went To?

Ive been to 7 SJU games. Im 0-7

Can anyone top that?

You need to start wearing a lucky sweater at the games.

hahah trust me ive tried it all.

funny story, first Johnny game I ever went to was at the carrier dome, went with a few friends and their parents who were all cuse fans. I wore a Syracuse shirt over my st johns gear up until the opening tip. When I took the cuse shirt off to reveal my johnnies gear I got a full water bottle thrown at my head from close to 20 ft away! I was 13 years old! How scummy can you get!!

Mase, I don't know how big of a guy you are ... but I have one of Looie's sweaters at home in a case. I'll let you wear it to a game if you think it will break your cursed streak. Seriously

1987-88 season vs Providence at Alumni Hall. Sold out 6,008 people I think Shelton Jones had 31 points and I think which was his number in college. It might have been the last game of the season but I'm not sure about that one

Mjmaherjr committed to St Johns soon after that

Between 1947-1949 saw a number of SJU games as a part of double headers but wasn't a Redman fan more of a LIU Blackbirds fan.

First as a student 12/26/55 Holiday Festival vs UCLA (Loss ). Second game Holy Cross with Tommy Heinson vs.University of San Francisco with Bill Russell. Russell had little in the way of an offensive game , but when he was done Heinson had none.

First at Alumni Hall December 1964 vs.Miami with Rick Barry (Win )

February 18, 1963: Loyola of Chicago, on its way a national championship, steamrolled over Joe Lapchick's only losing team, 70-49. Donnie Burks was star of the that 9-15 Redmen team, which included Bill O'Sullivan, a thin 6-6 center, and a soph named Ken McIntyre. The only reason I remember O'Sullivan is that he wore a big cast on one of his forearms and was totally dominated by Ramblers' Les Hunter. I was a junior in high school, and I remember thinking -- it sounds strange now -- what an impressive arena Alumni Hall was. And by the way, we didn't have another losing season until 31 years later, when we went 12-17 under Brian Mahoney ... 31 years!

Funny Dr.O is now the Principal in the school my wife teaches.

Mullin missed the front end of a FT with 5 seconds left that would have clinched it had he made 2. Pinone came down and launched a perfect shot from about 30 feet that go nothing but net as the buzzer expired. I was there.

Wow, St. Anne's? There's a Dr. Osullivan there who is tall, and I saw the name and wondered if it was him. Correct?

It was around 1980. I lived about 20 min from SHU. My father went to SJU and I never was into college BB. I still remember the pirate and Indian mascots. Walsh auditorium was small, but the atmosphere was intimate and electric. Really got me hooked, especially w SJU performance in the 80s w Mullin , Berry and Jackson. If my first game was a decade later I probably wouldn't be as big of a fan. I did not go to SJU.

I couldn't actually tell you the game. I know it was before Frank Gilroy got his mask - pretty sure it was when David Russel was a freshman. I can't recall too much about those first games. I was just thrilled to be at ALumni Hall with dad - and watching Russell's dunks.

In those days living in Queens there was no fear of taking the subway to see the Knicks , Rangers and college bb.

As Johnny Mathis once crooned, "Small world, isn't it?"

P.S. Did the cast ever come off?

February 2, 1987

It was a dh, my cousin played for some small catholic school, he was a bench player, but because this was at msg, the coach started him. He wound up with like 20pnts and was the game mvp beating nyu
Then came G-Town - ST. John's. It was packed including the 400s.
The REDMEN won 67-65, what a great game and damn was it real loud.

I always find myself asking, will we ever have that again or is that just a thing of the past?

I went to school with Billy O. I saw him last year on the Will Call line at CA. He was not wearing a cast.
