Unfortunately there is a massive difference between bringing back your 2 & 3 leading scorers to replace your #1, and having to replace both your top 2 scorers. Worse for us, they both did more than just score. Losing Mathis doesn’t worry me. This hurts a lot. If there is any silver lining maybe it persuades Stanley to stick around.
Posh
Storr
Wusu
Stanley
Soriano
Pinzon
Nywie
King
Traore
Was hoping we wouldn’t see that starting lineup until the following year. Now we need scorers inside and out.
I have to agree with Making Plays about Wusu. We expected nothing of him when he was recruited - most of us thought he was a throw in with Posh. Than last year he outplays our expectations and becomes a solid contributor, and most of us were thrilled. He was basically the same player this year, except due to injuries and poor roster construction he has to handle the ball much more and plays PG for long stretches. He’s not a great ball handler so he struggles in that role. Yet he’s tough as nails, defends well and rebounds well for a guy his size. He gets too much criticism around here - including from me at times.I would say if Curbelo or Touisant comes they would replace Storr or Wusu in the starting lineup. And that lineup isn't great if you are looking at it on paper today, sjubb hashtag would probably lose their mind and demand CMA resign after the first game if that was the opening night starting lineup. but, if guys improve like we think over the off-season it could surprise a lot.
And you're actually the first person I've seen that has Stanley penciled in starting at the 4, I also think he'd have a great shot to start as well, even if they did bring in another 4 from the portal. He was a good defender last year, very quick feet, he switched a lot and held his own on guards and forwards. He's shown his mid-range game has potential, and he can finish around the rim really well. There was times where I preferred him in the game over Soriano, just because I knew he'd finish around the rim if Posh got it to him. Also, he had a good looking free throw shot, it just didn't go in, I expect he'll be much improved there this year.
Also, Wusu is probably the most disrespected player on the roster. If he left it would be a huge loss and I don't think a lot of fans realize that. he has a great A/T ratio, shoots the 3 ball well which everybody loves, finishes at the rim, and can legit guard positions 1-4. He's the most versatile player on the team by far and plays whatever role asked of him and does it well. But, for some reason every turnover he has gets highlighted, and he can have a great game, but if he makes 1 mistake that's all everyone focuses on with him.
MP, if Wusu were to leave St. John’s would need to also replace me in the portal.I would say if Curbelo or Touisant comes they would replace Storr or Wusu in the starting lineup. I'm right there with you on Wusu and agree he can be a starter and big time contributor on a NCAA team. I love his game and versatility, he's a do it all player. I was rough on him sometimes in the game time threads, but honestly after you take the emotion out after a loss and just look at his entire body of work and see everything that was asked of him and how he did, you have to appreciate him.MP, if Wusu were to leave St. John’s would need to also replace me in the portal.
Love Wusu and love Stanley, and everyone else will too if they don’t run them out before they’re part of a winning team. No one loved Sean Evans, Malik Booth, Or Justin Brownlee before St. John’s started winning. I have no doubt Wusu can be a starter on an NCAA team.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if he had the biggest jump of anyone this off-season and legit turned into the 2nd best player on the team. And as far as Stanley, I think he's going to shock a lot of people, as a Freshman his was really raw but the potential was there. His defense impressed me a lot, he held his own in big time games. And I think he's a hard worker, his shot will improve. CMA compared him to his nephew Demarre Carrol, that's a big time compliment he doesn't use often.
Right now Wusu and others are solid role players who, quite frankly, would be replaceable on a good team. But since we are not a good team, their importance is greatly inflated. Stanley may turn out to be a solid role player and both Wusu and Stanley may develop in to solid starters, but we are not going very far if we do not surround them with some top flight talent. This is not a knock on them, but losing sleep over the possible loss of anyone on our roster except Posh, tells you just how far our program has sunk.
Let's be honest if Wusu transferred you would instantly be crowned the number one fan of whatever school he went to.Was being facetious mostly. The program has its hooks in me. If the whole team decided to transfer out id have no choice but to be a big Joe Tartamello fan.
Thank you that’s quite the honorLet's be honest if Wusu transferred you would instantly be crowned the number one fan of whatever school he went to.
The right move for his career only so many years you can make money playing basketball. Good luck he had a good year and finally got his chance to show what he could do. Probably won’t be drafted but at 6’7”/6’8 with length and mobility who can stretch the floor he might actually stick in the league as a forward who can guard multiple positions.
Definitely headed overseas, unless he wants to join Stef Smith in Canada (as reported elsewhere in this board).Imagine Allen Iverson face. Drafted? We're talking 'bout drafted? Dan, we're talking about Wheeler. Good player and seems to be a good kid who can make a fair bit of change if his passport is up to date. But Drafted?
You need a passport to go to Canada too.Definitely headed overseas, unless he wants to join Stef Smith in Canada (as reported elsewhere in this board).
It wouldn't shock me if Wheeler got an invite to play on a team in the NBA summer league. He is one of those guys whose game may be better suited to pros than college. Not saying he will get drafted or stick with an NBA team, but I could definitely see him getting an invite to play in summer league. Stranger things have happened.
But it is not "over any sea." You may not even need to cross a river or any body of water. You need a passport to go to Canada too.
