What should the rotation be?

Why did Smith get benched for Wusu today.  I dont recall Smith playing that bad or Wusu playing that good.  Seemed weird to me.
Smith didn't do anything wrong at all, Wusu is just bigger, stronger, and better on defense.  If you notice Wusu switches in the paint a lot on big men, and holds his own.  That line-up they ran to run the score up to 16 had Posh 6'0, Mathis 6'4, Wusu 6'4, Champ 6'8, Nyiwe 6'10.  Even though Posh is only 6'0 he's really strong and athletic, so they are pretty much switching everything and not missing a beat.  If CMA would have left that lineup out there a little longer they would have run it up to a 20+ point lead, he even joked about messing that up.

" If CMA would have left that lineup out there a little longer they would have run it up to a 20+ point lead, he even joked about messing that up."  He sure as hell did as I noted during the game in the Game Time Thread.

It was questionable for sure but it also wasn’t that cut and dry. The three subs were at the table when we were up 11 points. Then we scored a quick 5 points to take the 16 point lead. Subs were made and Champ and Posh came back in when the lead had been cut to 12. We still blew a double digit lead with our best guys on the court.

CMA is going to make his subs and go deep in the bench. I enjoy the fact that he does that but I just wish he wouldn’t so willingly have both of our best guys off the court at the same time.

When I coached girl's HS AAU, I had a few pretty good players that were the best on their own HS team.   Once I was going to sub out one of our guards with a pretty good player.   While I turned to give her instructions, the kid she was supposed to replace hit three long three's.   To her credit, the girl about to go in said, "Coach, you may want to wait a few minutes on me subbing for _____."   I had many smart kids.  Our best player went to Vanderbilt, the kid who made the three's graduated from Harvard, and the girl i was going to sub in went to Duke (turning down Priceton).   Lots of smart kids.

A coach can get locked into a substitution strategy he laid out earlier, and I think that's what happened to CMA.  Always ride the hot hand, always.

Right now main thoughts of rotation are deGrom, Scherzer, and go from there.                   Good one .            degrom, Scherzer and pray for Rain ..

I just want to see strong Defense played by whatever combination is on the court.

I don’t think we r as deep as we thought. The obvious are Soriano, Mathis, Wusu, posh, Champ ,Smith and probably Pinzon. I think we r going to see a shorter rotation then we thought.

Why is Coburn in the dog house, thought he was the best shooter on the team

Because he has not been playing well lately.

Super busy at work lately and haven't weighed in.  Obviously pumped to hit the new arena on Friday and appreciate any parking tips.

I am disappointed in the way the team has played, but choosing to remain hopeful.  As far as we know (and have seen), CMA teams improve throughout the year and he does coach guys into roles.  While the team may have a lower ceiling than I imagined, we will compete for a dance spot.

As most would agree, I think coach should start with Wheeler.  It's time to have the talk.  Take Aaron for a walk on the court and show him where he can most help the team (closer to the basket).  I would like to see Wheeler play more of a PF game.  I do think he has the tools to make a contribution if put in that role.  Let Posh, Smith, Wusu, Champ, Mathis, PInzon and Coburn play on the perimeter.

Hope to run into some of you on Friday.  Travel safe and root hard!

Coburn came down with the same disease Cole caught last year and what many other SJU recruits have come down with. They have great form and technique shooting threes prior to SJU and then after a game or  two at SJU they become brick throwers.i

Coburn looks much smoother as an athlete and player than Cole.
Absolutely nothing wrong with his form. Just haven’t dropped, think they need to do what other teams do to us. Drive so as to collapse the defense and hit him on perimeter

When kids come from lower levels of comp, tough to tell how they'll do at our level. Some adjust, some don't. Jury still out on what Coburn can do at this level.

Agree jury is still out. That said ,he has been playing against lower level competition.

Fair enough, but would still like to see how he does when the team is playing better and, hopefully, everyone finds a niche. We don't have many outside threats, so still hoping he can find his niche as a specialist off the bench.
