What if we go 1-1 in Big East Tournament

Wow looks like 90% of us were wrong. From Lunardi: "Big East tournament: Conveniently, St. John's and Providence square off in a Thursday afternoon quarterfinal (with the winner likely facing Villanova). The loser is out of the NCAA picture and we'll most likely see the winner at the First Four in Dayton, Ohio."

I dont know about you guys but that makes me feel good.

With all due respect to Lunardi, the winner will bypass Dayton.
I know that there was some disagreement with my television markets theory on our chances...but think about it. Would TBS (I think that they have the first 4 games) rather have Colonial champion vs SWAC champion or NEC champion in a first 4 game...or St. John's vs SWAC/NEC champ?
TBS is praying for the opportunity to get St John's into a first 4 game to give it some juice (and potential viewership)...
????

St John's would play a fellow bubble team, like an Arkansas/Minnesota/St Joes

Your first four teams/games last year:
Middle Tennessee vs St. Marys, Liberty vs NC A&T, Boise State vs LaSalle and James Madison vs LIU
Off the top of my head, 6 of the 8 teams were not bubble teams. They were automatic qualifyers that won conference tourneys.

Yeah there is so much that can happen that will derail his comment. For instance we still need Gonzaga or BYU to win the WCC which isnt a guarantee. Also need to avoid any crummy teams running the table this week like Georgia a few years back.

Would be ideal if San Francisco knocked off BYU tonight and pushed them of the bubble, but Gonzaga would have to win the whole thong obviously.

Might have to play Dayton in the first four game in Dayton, which will not be an easy task.

Seriously though, you don't want this game, because if you lose, the tournament is over before it has even started. However, I believe the bubble teams that win those "first four" games (not the #16 seeds), are at a bit of an advantage going into their round of 64 matchup. There really is not that much difference between a 5 seed and a 12 seed, and said 12 seed (assuming that's where the line is) will have already won at least one elimination game in the tournament (and possibly several more just to get to the first four). Does wonders for their confidence, IMO.

Can Dayton play IN Dayton?

Yes, and they would sell the place out like always. They have a great fanbase.

Never said they didn't you bully.
Dayton fans ARE great basketball fans. I saw first hand how many of them were in SC last year for our tournament and how they watched ALL games played not just theirs.
Their fans have made those play in games a great atmosphere because no question they are the ones in the building those nights.

Yeah there is so much that can happen that will derail his comment. For instance we still need Gonzaga or BYU to win the WCC which isnt a guarantee. Also need to avoid any crummy teams running the table this week like Georgia a few years back.

I would only feel better if we beat Providence and then Xavier loses its first round game, with a Finals of Creighton Nova. In that case, we'd have gone further than the other two 10-8 teams in conference, and would be at the mercy of the committee to include three Big East teams. It's a plausible scenario. I'd much rather win 2, and feel better of our chances after appearing in the Finals.
