What if we go 1-1 in Big East Tournament

Most would say we need 2 wins in the BET, but what do you think would happen in the following, very possible, scenario.

- St. John's beats Providence and loses to Villanova
- Georgetown beats DePaul and loses to Creighton
- Marquette beats Xavier and loses to Creighton

If the above plays out, we would have our two locks: Villanova and Creighton

I have to think more than two BE schools get in with our conference ranking. Here are the how the "bubble teams" look after the above scenario:

St. John's 11-9, 21-12
Xavier 10-9, 20-12
Providence 10-9, 20-12
Georgetown 9-11, 18-14

I'll leave the RPI and BPI stuff to the computers, but how do the Redmen get left out here?

When it comes to our program I never trust ref's and I never trust the NCAA.

To me winning 1 isn't an option because no matter what I think we will get screwed somehow.

Win 2. And let that 2nd be over Nova. And if we win 2 I think we win on saturday

If we go 1-1 we wait to find out if we are getting a home or road game in the nit.

We only have one solid win on our resume and that's the win over creighton. We have to win at least 2 but, when we beat providence we will beat nova, no way we loose to them 3 times this year.

In your scenario I think Xavier is in, and we're out. Even though SJU would have one more win.

I agree with the premise that more than 2 BE teams will make it but, in this scenario, have to agree that Xavier's sweep would trump us

Interesting scenario. As I mentioned in another topic, I don't see how the committee can only have 3 BE teams when we are the 3rd rated RPI conference. Two would be even less likely.

There are so many teams in the country that are in the same position as us. Go look at the SEC who has two locked teams Fla. and Kentucky and teams like Tennessee , Arkansas, Missouri, Georgia who, like us, have flaws to their tournament resume. Then go look at the Pac 12, after Arizona and UCLA there are teams like Oregon, Arizona State, Stanford and California who could get in but are not mortal locks. Same at the bottom of the big 12 after Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa State, Texas and Kansas State there is Baylor, Oklahoma State and West Virginia also with flawed resumes but tournament potential. The A10 is getting more bids than the Big East. Is St. John's getting in before Dayton? As fans of the team we say yes but unfortunately we don't sit on the selection committee. If we really want in the tournament, then the two wins (especially beating Villanova) will give us the separation we need to stand out from teams who we may be better than but look similar to us on paper.

St.John's is 1 win and 7 losses this season against to 50 programs. Not good.

St.John's is 0 - 2 against Xavier this season. Not good.

St.John's is 1 win and 12 losses against Villanova in the last 13 meetings between the two teams. Not good.

8-2 in last 10, good

Winning record in the 3rd ranked RPI conference, good

Tied for 3rd in the Big East, good

That's if you discount Big East wins. I don't . These upper Big East teams are all solid. Big 12 beats each other and everyone thinks their great.

Not expecting us to get a bid, but hoping. I take it you are not President of Optimists Club. Enjoy the tough win yesterday man & be happy we still have a chance, however slight.

Sometimes I wonder if Otis is a fan of St.John's. Sneaky suspicion he likes wildcats.

I still believe 2 more wins gets us a bid. It's not gonna be easy, but certainly doable.

Put in these terms, we have to get to the tournament finals. In the past 2 weeks, beating either Xavier or Nova in the regular season would have solidified an at large bid. My guess is that one win will put us in the NIT, and winning two are against pretty long odds.

I never knew historical context is put into the equation when selecting teams for post season tournaments.

I was holding out hope we'd be able to beat Marquette and only need 1 BE win to sneak in the tourney. Once I woke up today though and saw our RPI is 57 and SOS actually dropped to 50.. We have the definition of a mediocre-at-best resume. Beat PC first in an eliminator game and then we'll see where things stand on Friday.

I have been saying we need to win the BET to get in but I think now that a win over PC and then Nova puts us in the play-in game. The Nova win would really be a signature win that we need and it may be enough to put us over the top. The bubble is not overwhelmingly strong this year. If we win only one we are in deep do-do.

I think 2 wins , 1 against Nova gets us in, 1 win doesn't. The odds are against us but since the games are out MSG ,it's not an insurmountable task.
