What’s gone wrong with Shamorie?

What has happened to our “leader” and best player. For the last two weeks he’s been a complete no-show. I was going to make this thread during the NoVa game but we came back and won so I avoided it but he’s really letting the team and fans down.

He literally went from a late first round pick on multiple mock drafts ( ESPN, Sports Illustrated, bleacher and CBS) to maybe he’ll get drafted. What has gone wrong here?

Teams are throwing the same defense at him. Double him and make him give up the ball. When he attempts to drive, they gang up on him.

last 3 games from our future NBA stud:

Butler 4-12
vs Nova 2-14
@ PC 2-9 with no FTs

8-35, 4-23 in last 2 games.
1st rnd pick huh? lol

He's too easy of a target on a team with zero presence in the post. We really only win if we are hot behind the 3 point line with 2 or more players AND play great close out perimeter defense, which on more than one occasion, we have done. Also, some opposing coaches had poor game plans against us. The last Butler game and the last Marquette game were poorly managed on by the opposing team.

He also has been complaining a lot to the refs for non-calls.

Defenses are playing him better and he's already got one foot out the door. Shame he could end his career playing disappointing basketball.

But, teams were not doing that the last 2 and a half years? Even in bad nights in the past, he usually got his points.

Like I said elsewhere, I hope there is a little something physically wrong with him. Would explain a lot.

Since I’m confident he’s read this thread. Nobody is giving up you Shamorie.

People are just wondering how a player so talented is struggling like this.

My guess is that those putrid looking shoes he's been wearing are a size too big for him. But seriously, he's is just not playing smart basketball. He's not even paying attention in huddles. Mullin has tried to calm him down by sitting him a few times in the past few games but he is just playing uncharacteristicly poor with the ball in his hands and his shot has gone south. That said, Marvin Clark has been the biggest disappointment playing just stupid stupid basketball.

Shamorie is older, stronger, more experienced and surrounded by a much better supporting cast than he was the last 2 years. So I'm not buying the "double team" excuse or any other excuse. Body language in a player and a team is very telling, and his simply has not been good for much of this season. Have no clue if it's an injury or something else. I think many of us were expecting that we'd see a national POY type season from him this year. I'm sure that Shamorie was expecting the same thing. Disappointingly that hasn't been the case.

Its a shame that he is struggling so much. I just hope he can relax and enjoy the rest of the season. You are only in college once. I have been watching him play since high school and this is not the same player I have seen so many times. I am with SJU13. I hope Shamorie can get his game back.

Shamorie is one of the most talented players to wear an SJU uniform. He looks tired and frustrated much of the time. He just needs a good start and to get some calls and he'll revert to the kid we've become accustomed to see on the court.

The foot out the door thing doesn’t make sense. He’s a late second rounder at best this year. He understands the only way he gets drafted is by tearing it up the rest of the way.

If anything it’s that extra pressure he’s put on himself that’s hurting him. FWIW, he looks like he busted his butt on D more than I’ve ever seen him the first 23 minutes of the game before Clark’s mental breakdown.

He’s not getting any calls. This is why you don’t place the ball down away from the officials three times in a game. He won’t
be getting a friendly whistle by a Big East official the rest of the year.

I believe it is more than that. He looks like he is not even looking most times for his shot. He could be injured. I have not liked his body language or attitude recently, but it looks like more.

As others have said, Shamorie's body language doesn't look great the last several games and interaction with teammates doesn't always look to be there. This could all be a result of his frustration with team's successfully cutting him off from being a scorer, who knows. He doesn't appear to be physically injured to me. I've watched games where teams have defended Myles Powell similarly; difference is when he does pop free he hits his shots. Shamorie seems to have taken a little hit to his confidence/swagger recently for whatever reason. One thing is for sure - we won't 3 of our last 4 with Shamorie and Clark both slumping badly. Here's hoping they can turn things around starting Saturday. Shamorie deserves an NCAA appearance but he has to snap out of whatever funk he is in to get there.

Teams deny Powell because he’s a SG. Shamorie is a PG so they can’t deny him.
