Welcome back Matt A

To me ar least, all the business of NIL is murky. It's not supposed to be part of the recruiting process but clearly players want to know about it before they commit. Basically managing your roster is like managing a payroll where you can have a budgeted amount but each year the collectives start with zero dollars and hsve to raise that budget from businesses and individuals.

Having a smart alum like Matt on board is a big plus to recruiting in this age of NIL and transfer portal. As we remember Matt is a relationship guy who kept up with guys who we recruited but went somewhere else. On Rick's staff he empowers (demands) all coaches to go out and recruit. Considering that was Matt's primary role under Mullin, at the very least he knows how that all works. At best he will be an integral part of that process and interface with the collectives.

I don't know Matt but Panther introduced me the Monday night. They are close friends and anyone Panther is goid with I am too. In my conversation with Matt it's clear he is over the moon thrilled to be back here. With three young kids he wants to lay down roots for a long time and be close to fsmily. NY is home, SJU is home, and Matt's parents are here.

I loved having talented guys on my work teams. I also lived having people who worked their butts off and didn't punch a clock. I also liked hiring SJU alums. Matt is all three and i think this is a great hire.

When we played in the NCAAs in Charlotte by i stayed in the hotel closest to the arena. MJMaher also stayed there. Haplened to best the Duke hotel. Top seeds get the best hotels. It was cmear walking into the lobby that Duke runs a machine, with a lot of their staff at tables, all hotel employees given Duke tshirts and gear. Top notch. This is what we are building here at sju.

Rick knows how to build this. Cragg being from Duke knows too. Shanley too from Prov. The Storm Marketing guys are all great. It all starts with people who want to win.

As Paultz noted Matt left to work with Hoiberg, a best friend who plucked him from the Timberwolves office. Together they elevated iowa state basketball. When hoiberg left for nba and was tapped to revive Nebraska bball, he naturally turned to Matt. The infrastructure Mullin built was left then optimal. It made sense to leave. Things sre diff here now. End of story.
