Welcome back LJ Figueroa

I've always liked Trimble and have stayed out of the back and forth hoping it would go away. However, since it won't seem to go away, I'll say this:

1. Trimble is a first class kid who won't have a problem playing very competitively for DIV I schools in conferences like the A-10 if that is what he chooses;
2. Bryan did announce that he had decided to transfer unlike Figgy who only spoke through his agent who said Figgy was looking at options that included returning to SJU;
3. Entering one's name in the transfer portal to look at options is a right these kids have and should not be looked at as a sign of disloyalty;
4. Our coach and Bryan will no doubt talk (or have already talked) and will decide whether it is in SJU & Bryan's interest for him to return or move on.
Whatever they decide, I wish Bryan the best, he's been a solid Johnnie.

It’s over, but next time you have a chance: look up both the word ‘transfer’ and also what the ‘transfer portal’ is.
Thank you.

Chicago, I was an English major way back when so I fully grasp what "transfer" and "transfer portal" mean and I know it means the same to LJ Figueroa as it does to Bryan Trimble and others. These kids were probably even more disturbed by the coaching chaos situation than us posters on redmen.com were so it's not exactly unreasonable that they'd explore their options. Anyway, no reason to refer to kids who've gone to war for us as marginal players.

K I admit some of my word choices were ‘harsh’ and I apologize for those.
And I would welcome Bryan back, should he not find a suitable spot at this time.
You’re right NCJ, the kid battled for us.
Let’s move on and thanks for the civilized riposte.

We had a coaching change, he was apprehensive, he met the new coach, he changed his mind. The end.

Is Paultzman Roberto Durant?
Is that Kevin's brother or do you mean Roberto Duran? ;) :)

____

My understanding is that Bryan is still in the transfer portal but remains uncommitted. Personally I would not be disappointed if he returns to StJohn's for the coming season.

Trimble's on court performance may improve with better coaching.
I disagree. Trimble is too slow and his only game is as a subpar 3pt shooter.
And I hate to be harsh but imo, he left the program when he opted to transfer.
Question: Is he still on the roster?
Or did he void his ‘ship by entering the portal?
There is technically no roster yet. The kid is still an SJU student and no he didn’t void his scholarship (but they are renewable every year)
Again, not being harsh and I’m the first to defend a kid being pushed out but guys who voluntarily enter the transfer portal are saying they are no longer loyal to the team. They opt to leave.
I’m such cases, why should the team be loyal to them?
So we should not have been “loyal” to Figueroa? He did the same thing you seem to have a problem with Trimble doing.
Apples and oranges. It was a business decision. Figgy opted to ‘explore opportunities’. We wanted him to stay. He returned.we took him back. Wise ‘choices’ on both parties’ parts, imo.
Trimble, a fringe player, opted to leave. Imo he won’t fit well in CMA’s system and I would like to see him go elsewhere. So, his decision pleased me.
IF Trimble had stayed, you wouldn’t have heard a peep outta me, because he was a member of the team, played hard, kept his grades up, his part of the deal, and should stay.
But he opted to leave. His choice.
Now, IF he can’t find a suitable D1 or scholastic. spot elsewhere, it would be ‘classy’ to allow him back on the team, but now that decision is also based on our roster needs since he, Trimble, opened the door initially.
That’s my view.
Trimble is no point guard and I’ve seen him airball as many threes as he’s made at SJU. He made his own bed and it’s no longer in Queens. Good luck somewhere else kid.

Figgy has:
Step back 3
Deep 3
Floaters and all kinds of ways to finish in the lane
Finishes through contact
Plays good defense
High IQ
...and hasn't been coached a lick..

So I'm interested in knowing why he isn't on the NBA radar?

You left out that he always hustles and plays with passion.

Figueroa has played ball for many years, one at SJU; aside from the opportunity to take a shot at Mullin, you really think he hasn’t been coached a lick? I would venture to say he has gotten some excellent coaching somewhere.

Fine. I'll take back my coaching assessment...
Now let's answer the MAIN question people.
And how about not answering a question with a question. That gets annoying

What also gets “ annoying “ is a caustic comment from an individual who has accumulated 52 posts.
A little respect, perhaps (?) for those who have been on this site for a spell.
All the best.

Wait so your main question is why he's not getting NBA looks?

Look dude, I'm 42 and been a fan since I was 7. So I've earned my stripes with or without this forum.
Just wishing to start a little discussion. That's all.
If anyone has something useful to add to the discussion I'll give you all my points. BTW, I never even noticed the points, that's petty kid stuff.
So glad to have LJ back! Now let's celebrate his diverse skillset and try to figure out why we're the only ones who seem to appreciate his talents.
Just trying to get a good discussion going with some men who aren't snowflakes

So you make an asinine coaching statement, don’t even have enough basketball acumen to realize the list of suitors when Figueroa entered the transfer portal speaks volumes to the diverse appreciation of his talents away from this board and want too open up a discussion by insulting people? Sure thing dude.............................

Honestly I believe LJ has great instincts on the court and is often in the right place for a putback slam or alley oop, has terrific hops and quickness getting to a spot, and is a good defender and rebounder.

His shot though is almost a set shot - no elevation at all, and may have trouble getting it off vs. NBA competition.

He is no more than an average ball handler, and rarely takes the ball all the way to the hole, content to pull up in the lane for short floaters.

In short, given his talent set he has miles of turf to improve. As a raw talent, he is NBA caliber, but imo needs to use thus time in college to improve and refine his game.

This is NOT and criticism , but high regard for his ceiling. That he could score 14 a game with deficiencies is testimony to how far he can go if he improves.
