We Should Play Cuse at Carnesecca Arena

I have felt this way for years now, with them thinking they are NY's team. But i always caved to the arguement that we needed the paycheck, and had to suffer through the Cuse home game at MSG. But now with them leaving the Big East I see no reason why we should give them the benefit of playing at MSG put the game at CA and play DePaul or Prov at MSG.

check it out, Cuse is the 8th closest school to NYC in the Big East. How are they NY's team? If you are NY's team do you really have to have an advertizement campaign to say so?

Distance from NYC
School Miles Hours Minutes
St Johns 0 0 0
Seton Hall 17 0 32
Rutgers 40 0 53
Villanova 105 1 56
UConn 142 2 54
Providence 180 3 34
Georgetown 232 4 21
Cuse 248 4 22

Hi Redmen Interseting post but I will respectfully agree to disagree:

- SJU needs the money big time
- The players signed on to SJU to play teams like the CUSE at MSG, not at a beat up 1950's style gym that the school did a 1/2 ass job of renovating
- Will hurt recruiting
- As a longtime fan, my biggest thrill was when we beat Uconn at MSG last year. We stuck it to their fans after years of abuse. Winning against the cuse at CA/Alumni Hall will not have the same feel

Thanks,

1985

How are they NY's team?

They're from NY, they're wildly successful, and they draw more fans on average than the Knicks. If not them, who.

Yeah, I don't like Syracuse at all, however they are from New York...they never have claimed to be "New York City's Team"....and not for anything, who really cares what they think up there in Canada?? :p

I agree with you totally, the renovation of CA was a waste of money. either do it right , or don't do it at all. The arena should have seating, not bench's through out the arena. The capacity should have been 10K , not 5k. Total Vincentian thinking went into this debacle. It's a glorified HS gym! 1984forever is correct!

The answer to us being drowned out by Cuse fans at MSG isn't to play them at Alumni Hall for the next two seasons - the answer is to
1) Put a better product on the court so they have less to cheer about. (we're making progress)
2) Get our fan base to show up in bigger numbers.

We have the same number of students as 'Cuse does. And while a big portion of their alumni base works in Manhattan they also lose a significant percentage of their graduates to western ny (say 30% of grads end up in buffalo, Syracuse, Ithaca, Rochester etc) ..practically ALL of SJU's alumni remain in the NYC/Long Island area.

We need to regularly put a winning product on the court, and make a stronger connection to our students and alumni.

Plain and simple. The Nets don't ask the Knicks to play them in a smaller arena just because they'll be outnumbered in their own arena... just like Tampa Bay doesn't play the Yankees at a minor league stadium to maintain their home field advantage.

Get better and get the fans to show up.

I guess I dont really consider Syracuse, to be NY although they are technically part of this state, I always consider that part of Upstate to be Canada. as for claiming to be NYC's team, have you seen thetop of taxi cabs, or the add they took out in Times Square? Seems to me thats making a statment of trying to be NYC's team....

Or get better fans which besides all my friends on these boards has always been a bit of a problem as well.

The Giants and Jets want to be considered New York's teams but actually the Bills are the only pro football team in this State. I have always resented the Giants and jets for calling themselves New York and believe they should call themselves what they are New Jersey teams. So Syracuse I suppose can be a NY team just like the Bills

well, since SJU never ran such an add campaign they did it. SJU could always counter with its own successful marketing campaign. The ads on TV this year are a start, but until the product on the fall continues to improve, and improve to the next level, it wont have a meaningful impact.

Look, seeing all of the SU fans in the stands can be annoying, but there would be nothing better than beating SU on the MSG floor. Just like crushing all those stupid preppy duke fans last season.

If we're being honest, we all know it's true ... our fans aren't the best in the BE.

One of our biggest pitches to recruits is that we regularly play in the Garden, that it's our other home court. And now it's being suggested that we play Syracuse in CA rather than in a sold-out MSG? Makes no sense at all.

As for Syracuse fans outnumbering ours, it's typically the lone regular-season opportunity for their many NYC area alums and fans to see them in person, so of course they're going to pack the place. Simple solution, as noted above: Put a quality team on the court year after year, build interest in the program, and more of our own fans will show up.

I find this team very, very easy to root for.

IMO, these young men are worth the price of admission. We have more talent on the court this season than we have had in year's (with all due respect to last year's squad).

May turn out to be one of my favorite teams of all time when all is said and done.

I am always amazed (though I shouldn't) that we may not be able get at least 12,000 St. John's fans to show up for the Syracuse game.

Game is on a Saturday, Feb. 4 at Noon.

We have nobody to blame but ourselves (majority of alumni and students) if we are outnumbered.

If we want to have a top team we need to show potential recruits that they will supported by the fan base and their fellow students.

How about the fact that at an indoor winter sport arena the ticket booths are located on the outside of the arena. Nothing like waiting on line outside in February during a blizzard. Only at St. John's my friends only at St John's. :(

Cuse, Pitt and WV should all be scheduled at CA ONLY like all irrevelent non conference opponents!!
They are leaving The Big East, and as such are dead to me!
Let's grow a set and send a message.

yea lets lose a ton of money, piss off MSG, and try to convince ESPN to bring cameras to carnasecca. but i guess we can make up the money with the games in the the next few years against boise state, houston and the university of central marathon oil

last I checked Boise State was a football only school...

we can make it up with games against Iona :)

Speaking of Iona. See that they are playing Big Bad Hofstra today.

And none other than Michael Patrick Fraudcessa, said he was going to the game.

A "ton" of money? Really vs WVU. We can replace the 1 or 2 games with other good opponents have a real home advantage for our last go round with these "rivals". As far as ESPN goes they are in CA all the time since you have not noticed. It would make for a great story and atmosphere! I used to love playing Cuse and Gtown at Alumni Hall, how great would it be for us season ticket holders to get to experence that one more time and prevent other teams alumni access!! Yea that sounds horrible :woohoo: :woohoo:
