Visited Providence This Weekend

I'm an equal opportunity any ethnicity porn watcher

I enthusiastically recommend getting in touch with your Japanese side.

Not that I have an extensive illegally downloaded collection or anything like that. I must have read somewhere that it's good.

It's scary how we know each other over the years because I knew you had a preference to asians :)

Is it weird that I knew that about LJSA as well? I don't even know how, but if there was some kind of word association test and LJSA came up, first thing out of my mouth would be "likes Asians."

The first key to always to deny deny deny the aforementioned preference, lest Asian women think you are a cheesy white guy. :)

Good luck in this process JW. You're a lucky young man. By the time you graduate law school in 9 years (think my math is right), the job market may actually be favorable!

I think we are all lawyers on this site.
That would explain the constant arguing and bickering! :)

OK, now I'm officially embarrassed. ;)

Thailand strikes me as way too safe a choice for you. I would piggyback Cambodia on it if I were you.

But back on topic before we all get deleted, I'd probably pick Nova over Providence given the choice. Are you applying there? Forgive me if that was covered already.

Ok back on topic.

A friend of mine from work's son is deciding his college tonight. He is down to Nova and Maryland. 20k difference in school. He wants to major in international business or something like that. I told my friend to tell Nova officials he knows Otis but that didn't work.

Nova is something like 59k per year. Insane. And he is just finishing putting his oldest through quinnipiac and that's like 55k a year. And he has 1 more kid on deck.

That's freaking unreal

Yikes, I guess I haven't priced Villanova in 25 years.

OK, Jack, my official recommendation outside of NYU is Suffolk Community College followed by transfer to Stony Brook.

If you were local, I would suggest Queens College. One of my girls went there, got a great education and got into Georgetown Law. Props to qcredman.

HAHAHA
Right after posting that, for the first time ever, I saw an ad for an Asian wife. The internet is a frightening place.

My daughter has to decide by Thursday as well. Luckily she's narrowed it down to two state institutions, one $21K all in and one $25K. Not sure which way she'll go but I'm just glad she didn't pick the $55K one!

Whatever happened to the days of state institutions costing like $8,500?

Which frat in St. John's ?

SigEp.

Just kidding...I don't know why I thought that was funny. I was in Sammy.

Jack- It seems like you have school mostly planned out, and as such I assume you are a good student (I just don't think C students are thinking about college as a sophomore). I recently graduated from St Johns Law (double alum), and my best advice is to look at schools that offer large scholarships for undergrad. Law school is incredibly expensive, and it is a big difference to only have loans from law school as opposed to having loans from both law school and undergrad. If you do well in college and score well on the LSAT's, you'll be able to get in most places.

And Marillac- when did you graduate? I was Sammy too. Any others on this board?

It's hard to tell a kid who did well to go to junior college for a couple of years with a number of kids who eked their way through high school...then transfer to an elite school.

That's what I recommend, however. You can take core courses and do extremely well...then go Ivy League where the doors will be open for you. After that, it'll be much easier to pick a great law school. You can make great money coming out of a top law school. Mediocre money, if you can find a job, awaits you if you go to an ordinary school.

Thanks simplyred. In September I start my 50th year teaching at Queens College (the last five posthumously but no one has noticed yet) and I can tell all of you that QC is an absolutely incredible bargain. Fathers - nota bene: tuition for full time undergraduate students (who are New York State residents) is now $6,030 per year. Many of our students - like simplyred's daughter - get accepted to the very best professional and graduate schools.

The 28 year old and under generation faces far fewer options than their parents faced in terms of certainty of career options.

When I graduated undergrad in the late 1970s a grad could expect to find a teaching job in the locality they settled. Large companies had real training programs for college grads to move into with the thought that the grad could have a long career. Public entities hired and offered careers to grads. Many large companies took pride that they never had layoffs.

Unfortunately the world has changed. The only people I see with reasonable certainty getting jobs with 4 year undergrad degrees are accountants, nurses, engineers and computer science majors. The long time demand for pharmacy majors has softened. New law grads scramble as they never did before. Med schools grads face shrinking opportunities.

Should a senior in high school go to college? IMO yes, but potential debt should be a factor in their decisions. The high school applicant should not initially cross off the most expensive schools until s/he determines eligibility for financial aid since many of the most expensive schools provide the most generous financial assistance.

Is it worth borrowing $40K to attend an undergrad college? Probably not; SUNY and CUNY provide solid alternatives.
