I’m retired since Pandemic and now have no problem making the 6:30 games, but before that it was a big problem and there are a ton of them. The TV aspect and the effect on attendance is real. The 6:30 starts and 8:30 starts are both designed totally for TV as both times provide issues for those attending in person. And every game is on TV so watching that way is always an option. It’s not like the OOC conference games were available on TV, even a short time ago. That’s half the home schedule.
In any metro area it will be real tough for any college team to draw unless they are going well. Look at Georgetown. I suspect it could never be THAT empty at Creighton. How well is going well? Opinions vary and what it takes but surely what SJU has accomplished in the last ten years is not enough. This year at some of the Carnesecca games I have been taken by how many old friends and acquaintances I have run into who I knew had season tickets only to find out they had given them up. And now go to a few games a year. These were never miss a game types.
Can’t blame anyone. I mention from time to time that I dropped my tickets for the entire Norm era. As I missed that I ask those who didn’t - is the attendance at Carnesecca even worse than then?
