Villanova (MSG), Fri., Jan. 20, 7p, FS-1

Will Mathis be back for this game. If not, Pinzon should start instead of Wusu. He’s a better offensively and a better ball handler.

Mathis has played well this year…but, needs to come off bench going forward

Barring someone else getting injured, it's going to be hard for Mathis to make it back into the guard rotation. He's not even able to run or practice right now, he's going to be out of shape and everyone is playing well and CMA is settling on a rotation that everyone is comfortable with. If Mathis misses another couple of weeks, his best case scenario may be taking King's 2-3 minutes a game and just being a leader at practice.

I understand why you feel that way but I don't think that's how it's gonna work out. I believe it'll get to a point where their 2 deep at 1-4 and he'll get 15 minutes at least with Wusu getting the other at the 3. I'm hoping Pinzon and Storr have locked up the 2 and Posh's rest time to Curbelo at the 1. Of course there will be other mixes but that's my simplification. CMA loves Mathis' D.

We already seen it with Pinzon, if you remember Pinzon was in the starting lineup in the pre-season game, was going to be a starter to start the season, got hurt, and then was hard for him to get back into the rotation and CMA likes him a lot. If the team is playing well and rotations are set, I don't see how he plays a significant role, unless the team is losing games or someone else gets injured.

I seen it. And I still think the same thing, if they are playing well, he's not going to mess with the rotation. One thing I didn't think of though, I could completely see a situation where Jones or Curbelo gets in the dog house one game for a series of bad decisions and then Mathis gets in and has a good game and he gets back in the rotation then. Jones only played 13 minutes last night, he has to pick it up, Pinzon and Storr are just outplaying him rn and making better decisions.

I get the feeling he's done for the season, but information will be released on a need-to-know basis.

After watching Nova lose to DePaul and barely beating Georgetown today at home, and the Johnnies recent resurgence, I will be surprised if the Johnnies don’t beat them handidly at the Garden on Friday.

Wusu much better passer, defender and rebounder than Pinzon. I’m ok starting Wusu and bringing Pinzon off the bench. The sense I got from one of CMA’s prior press conferences was that Mathis’s injury was pretty severe. CMA said initial results were a sprain but that it could be worse. Out indefinitely

Do I trust this team? no

But allow optimistic Jack Williams to look at this for a second. Our next three home games (Nova, GTown, The Hall) are all winnable games. Protect home court and we are 16-7 (6-6) with a marquee win @Uconn.

That puts us in position to make a push. I don't know whether we make it or not. But win the next 3 home games and we are at least in the conversation. So that is what I am focusing on moving forward. The @Creighton game has historically been a house of horrors for us so not expecting anything there

There’s been Creighton teams we match up worse with IMO. Not a team full of dead eye shooters that have given us trouble in the past. Scheriman is the one you really have to look out for. Kalkbrenner is great but if you can stymie Sanogo and Clingan I think you can do similar with Kalk.

Agree Mase & Creighton lacks the productive depth they normally have
