Villanova- Game 2

No excuse to lose by 40. Pathetic. What a waste driving to this disaster.

Gimme a break. We rested 1/3 of our already short rotation on the road. What did you expect?

#1 goal we all agreed was to come out healthy. Branch and Obekpa get several days rest. Nobody injured. The game was essentially meaningless for us.

Fine resting these guys but losing by 35 is unacceptable. This is what we can expect next year. Play with a little pride.

And if Branch and/or Obekpa were lost for the season, you'd kill Lavin for playing them. He can't win with some of you. It's insanity.
You & I disagree often, but don't on this. Nutty!

And Lavin traveled to Europe to recruit Amar? We have to be the worst defensive pick and roll team and that includes when Obekpa is playing. They don't switch right away, even CO is slow to getting back to his man. Take a look at the best defensive team in the country, UVA. when they switch off a pick the whole team switches in unison.
I'm thinking that our guys have to be really pissed at the blowout. And that includes me, especially when Archi..... and company were pressing while up 93-66.
If we play them again it has to be man to man, no open threes.

105-68 F house money, this pisses me off. Making the f'ing ncaa doesn't cut it.

Get some bigs for next Lavin, if not then gtf out of here. Villanova would just do the same crap next year then, dump it down low for easy layups.
It's BSSSSSSSSSSS

Grow up.

If you didn't see them going inside all game then you're blind my friend. CVan't accept reality? That's your p[roblem. I wonder how many points they got in the paint.
Hope CO doesn't get in foul trouble in the B.E. Tournament.
Anyway screw you

Nailed it. My alma mater and my favorite sports team just got taken to the woodshed after tantalizingly playing even the first half, and I didn't notice how it happened. Spot on.

Anyone that expected us to win this game on the road against the #4 team in the country--after it was announced we were resting Branch and Obekpa (our only true big man)--was just not being fair or reasonable. You leave to live in that category.

My advice...relax. Take a deep breath. Be happy that we are already in and we have a chance to do some damage in the BET and NCAA tournaments with a more rested, healthier lineup. Revenge is less than a week away.

Please drop the personal insults and bickering immediately. Discuss the game and if you have to take the crap to pms

Jay Wright really stuck it to Lav today. Left most of his starters in deliberately till they were up 31. Nice job Jay. What a class guy.

You know what they say about payback.

A few days ago, I suggested that a front court of Obekpa, ADR, Alibegovic, and Jones was not going to cut it next year in the Big East. Was told by a few posters that college is a guard's game and who do we have now?

Case in point. Today.

Listen, this is just a meaningless regular season game. Embarrassing, yes. But meaningless in the grand scheme of this season. But Lavin better get his ass in gear once the season ends and recruit some big men. Cause this result is what happens when you have no depth at the PF/C position. Ridiculous that our best backup was somebody who score 1.5 ppg at FIU last year.

sheesh the board is more delusional than providence fans. relax folks. move on and focus on providence. if we beat providence, a good opportunity for redemption.

Keith Thomas would have made us a really tough team & we would not have to discuss J&J. On to Providence.

Not fair to dump on these under talented players.. WHO BROUGHT THEM HERE UNDER THE GUISE OF them being BE Players? Steverino!

THOMAS? Also on Lavin, if Lavinwood would due diligence these kids, we wouldn't be putting eggs in a basket with no bottom..

LOUIE'S PASTA WON'T GO DOWN well tonite. I DON'T RECALL OUR GUYS EVER GIVING UP A 100 UNDER LC.

And, a big s--t sandwich to Jay Wright for piling on. I HOPE STEVE HAS THE BALLS TO TELL HIM TO SHOVE IT Up HIS a s.. I doubt Lavin has the onions!

I didn't mean to thank you on this post. Miserable.
You've been quiet lately.
You know what's also on Lavin? 21 wins and an NCAA tournament berth. Good day to you--if that's even possible.

well, let's deal with facts. WE ARE A 5TH place team in the BE and true, finally a berth in the NCAA TOURNAMENT . GOOD FOR THE KIDS, NOT THE Coach...

is 2 out of every 5 years to go to the tourney enough for you? If that is your criteria for this program, you are welcome to it! Getting blown out is never pretty, this was a disaster and eats up a lot of whatever good will you want to throw Lavin's way..

Do you really believe that it will only be 2/5 for Lavin all the time?
The fact that you don't cut him any slack for year two--when he returned one player, a two-star undersized combo that transferred, and year three--when he left early with prostate cancer--tells us all we need to know about how reasonable you are as a fan.

Jay Wright is a very classy guy and I know he didn't do it on purpose, but there was no need to leave his starters out there so long against the end of our bench up 25 with the tournament just a few days away considering the depth and size he had to choose from. The game was put away once they went up 16.

I think that will bite him in the ass big time if we get past Providence.

If this annihilation doesn't inspire us against Nova next week nothing will. Not only pressing us up 27 points but fast breaking as well. And that was with six and change left in the game.

Doody, with all due respect, today proves nothing. We played without our starting center, Chris Obekpa. CO has NBA ability. Also, Ochefu is all-Big East and will be playing in the NBA. He is a match up nightmare for all but a dozen or so teams in the country.

Amar is a good player. His weaknesses now are not due to ability, they are due to freshman mistakes. He could be exponentially better next season. Freshman bigs are usually not very productive. Ochefu was not the same player as a frosh--averaging less than half the point and rebounds in just six less minutes per game.

Coach will have to speak with Jones at the end of the season about his options. He clearly is not meant for this level...he'd be better of going to a more appropriate level like C.W. Post and playing SF to showcase his offensive skills.

Finally, we will add another post player. We will also likely have ADR--who would have made a world of difference tonight and was recruited to neutralize guys like Ochefu.

Kind of hard to extrapolate 2 out of every 5 from the first five years alone. Not enough to establish a pattern.

I'm 5'7 150 pounds and I'd bet my life I could box out Joey and Jones all day long.

And that should include Amar.

Jack, this is just false. In fact, Amar is one of the best bigs at boxing out I've seen all year. He's a beast. He gets hurt by over-hedging and over-rotating. Boxing out has never been and will likely never be an issue for him.

If ANYTHING, he needs to get out of his boxouts earlier instead of driving guys 10 feet from the basket.

No, I didn't expect a win, what I expected was a good hard fought game for 40minutes. Not down 4 with 13minutes, then get outscore by freaking 33pnts in the last 13min.
That again, pisses me off and I will not relax when that happens like it's all good and ok.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the 1st game that same bs happened, no? Did or didn't Chris play in that game?
Even if Chris stays, we need more big men, for next year.

I don't have a problem with dropping this game since we already did the work for an NCAA berth. This particular game was lost long ago on the recruiting trail.

I think the concern that most posters are have is that they got a peak into next year's team. Unless both Jordan and Obekpa both return (doubtful), this is going to be an awful team. I just hope we can get Brandon Sampson to sign on the dotted line as soon as possible. Otherwise, he might soon realize......

For the record, I don't believe Jones or Stewart are Big East players. I think ADR can be, but he will likely be an average freshmen and a long work in progress. Balamou is one of the worst ball handlers I have seen at this level and is surely nothing more than a reserve or limited role player.

Boy, that 2014 class was extremely important for our program and we could not have done worse.

Dislaimer: Yes, I am a SJU fan. Yes, I am aware that they have put together a very nice season. Yes, I do want them to win and make a deep run. I am simply commenting on the overall future and health of the program

OK I was trying to figure out who is the worst between Jones, AA and JD. It is Jones.

Tough call. Joey gets my vote, has more experience being lousy.

Jones by a mile. Nova made their run with him out there. He just can't rebound and it brings team rebounding down exponentially.

Unless he's a great student and teammate, it may be worth having a sit down with him at season's end about his options.

Amar shouldn't have been pulled for over-hedging. He is the only guy with a shot to slow down Uchefu.
Can't imagine Jones being here next season.

Listen, I can understand not having talent , but he looks like he is moving in slow motion
Guess we all agree. Jones is not a D1 player.

Anyone who turned the game on while Jones, Joey or Amar were attempting to play defense must have thought it was a Division 5 league.

Can we stop their post game next week??????????????????????

I was always a big fan of Jay Wright at HOFSTRA AND NOW, NOVA.. Until today, it wasn't classy to go over a 100 in the victory today.

Is there bad blood brewing between him and STEVERINO?

it might take a 100 years but, St John's needs to find a way to beat VILLANOVA SOON and to put up a 100 on them someday.. No reason for the final score today being so lopsided, once it was clear it was over..

Despite the Lavinites dismissing today as a nothing game.. AFTER IT WAS PLAYED.. no game is meaningless, especially to a long time rival like NOVA.. fine, our best wasn't enough to get it done today but,you can't just roll over like a dog and say uncle.

What was needed was to say, hey let's not go belly up, keep it decent and move on to the Tourney.. But, we didn't stop the bleeding and, didn't try..

Amar may have some potential but I think it will be at least two years until we see it. He played too little this year to gain any experience. ADR has some ability , but he will be effectively a freshman as well next year. At this point in March, chances are getting slimmer that we will find another solid option. If Obekpa decides to go pro, we will go backwards fast.
