Versatile Aaron Scott

When we played North Texas in Charleston in 2023, their relentless in your face defense produced a score in the 50s and a game much closer than it should have been. Scott was the best player on that team. Getting him was a coup, in the most literal sense.

Have you ever noticed Hurley on the post game handshake line. He often stops and chats with an opponent's player, apparently warmly congratulating their play or offering encouragement. Getting kids to your school is not all about money and success. Rosters are built on relationships, which is why Hurley is successful, Matt A is successful, and Rick Pitino is successful.

Scott for his part, is perhaps the mortar of this brick wall of a defense. Unafraid to give up his body, hit the deck, boxes out*, switches etc. It's hard to single out a player because they work in unison - one breakdown and it's a wide open shot or layup.

I also love that Scott doesn't jaw, trash talk, back talk refs etc. This team doesn't back down so they on occasion get those double techs, but they have a blue collar work ethic, emblematic of nearly everyone from Queens. Keegan Bradley of all people, identified with that mentality, coming from a town in Massachusetts where "people have to work hard for everything they achieve" and seeing it right away at SJU and in Queens.

Scott has been a joy to have here in this most special of seasons. Tough as nails, great defender, a nice stroke, and a good kid.

One can only hope and maybe believe as a skinny kid from Hoboken sang "The best is yet to come!"
