Vanderbilt, Mon., Nov. 23, 2:30 PM, ESPN2 & 970 AM

I knew they were big, and I knew they were top 20, but I think they enjoyed an exceptional day of shooting and it led to a blowout disaster that I didn't quite expect. I think this would be a closer game in February, but we'd still be outmatched at nearly every position, including the bench. Not discouraged in the least.

I agree 100%. February 2018

I
he was serious... cause Sciambi agreed with him.

Seriously, you have to be kidding me. Shorts and warm ups? I mean it's bad enough reading about the "fans" kind enough to give Mullin a pass this year but shorts and warm ups?

Much better 2nd half. Maybe the staff made some adjustments at HT. Sign of a good coach.

Oh boy

Agree with the "Oh boy". Almost embarrassed the comment was attached to one of my posts!!

OMG. You guys really need to relax. We got waxed by a much better team. Can't possible judge coaching one way or another when there is that big of a gap in talent. Even if Coach K was behind the SJU bench we weren't winning today.

Certainly realize we will take our lumps this year, but thought your "half time adjustments" comment was humorous.

Said tongue in cheek. I should have used an emoticon. I think we all know we are in for a long year. There is a reason why SJU was picked last in the BE and it has nothing to do with the staff. I hope CM works out but no one knows how it'll work out one way or another until we are a few years in.

they did enjoy an exceptional day of shooting, but even if they miss all11-12 threes that they made we still lose,

Vandy is a terrific team.. Kind of like Wisconsin last year.. What struck me was their size compared to ours. They were just bigger, stronger, quicker.. Our guys looked like Munchkins next to them.. Chris will get better players and more physically strong kids as he recruits his own type players. Mussini and Sima, are going to become better. They have talent. Balamou just could not do anything inside against Vandy but, it wasn't from lack of effort. Vanderbilt also shot well from outside. Everything they put up went in!

The way the Commodores played today, I doubt many teams in the Top 25 would have beaten them. So, move on.

92-55 oh well

Not that anyone wants to hear it but there was one huge positive, only 8 Turnovers.
Maybe part of that was that it was a blowout, and Vandy didn't play pressure def. Still though, it was only 8 Turnovers.
I'm thinking we have a real shot at Wake tomorrow. Are they any better then RU?

Listen, Let's just Blame this on Lavin. He got us into this tournament. We were better suited to play in the Barclays Center Invitational.

I think we should blame the Atlantis tournament on Lavin as well. What was he thinking putting us into top tournaments.

I would have paid good money to see if they could find a Lei big enough to fit over Lavin's dome

@BrandonTierney: Wouldn't overreact, #SJUBB fans. Today's result not completely unexpected. All about the big picture and the future, which is very bright.

Reading every post in this thread, there seem to be 2 recurring themes.

Statement: Coach Mullin should not wear shorts because he has not paid his dues.
Answer: He paid his dues since the early 80's. Besides that, everyone wears shorts in Maui.
Statement: Durand Johnson is stinking the joint up.
Answer: When you play at this level, missing a year of competitive basketball is an enormous challenge. Durand may never be what he was, who knows. Recovering from an injury and a long layoff is a difficult task.

Overall, things are not that complicated. Coach Mullin and staff are here to bring in better players. That is the secret to success for every coach. Coaching acumen is overrated in college. You get great players, you go the NCAA and maybe win a championship. You have what we have at this point, you take your lumps. Great players, especially smart ones that understand how difficult it is to make the NBA and stay there, will want to come here to learn under 2 hall of famers.

On point. It's not a good combination when the other team is bigger, stronger, more skilled and more experienced. I thought of Tom Crean today and the last time he was in this tournament. It was his first year at Indiana with a similar undermanned squad. The results for him in that tournament were (with KenPom rankings) : lost to 41. Notre Dame 88-50, lost to 101 St.Joseph's 80-54 and beat Chaminade 81-79 in the 7th place game. He went 6-24 that year and 1-17 in the Big 10.

This is going to take time. This was going to be a challenging tournament from the start. No Lovett, Ellison and Williams didn't help. We're going to take some lumps this year. Just look for individual and team growth. Look for signs of understanding how to run the sets, improvement in execution of plays, sets and the gameplan and enjoy whatever progress and wins come our way. We have a long long long way to go, but we'll get there.

with all due respect to BT he would get excited talking about Norm Roberts on the radio in our darkest days

I like him and he is an awesome supporter of the school but I gotta keep what he says in perspective too :)

Reality check, that's all.

The over/under for this season is 10 wins, IMHO. It's been that way since probably May. If you're surprised by what happens when a team of mostly freshman and almost entirely new players goes on the road 3 games into the season to play a top 20 team, then you weren't paying attention.

Mama told me there'd be days like this
But I ain't never ever think there'd be a day like this (Naw!)
Not now not ever, and now until forever you will never need another

You shouldn't wear shorts when you have milk white skin.. Irish pro players should be allowed to wear long pants. At least they weren't his SJU short shorts.

Vandy beat up on a crappy SJU team today. We have guys who had to introduce themselves to each other, and our returning vets were spare parts last season. If we play just 5 or 6 games like the 3 that started our D1 season, I'll be satisfied. Comparing Vandy to the NCAA finalist might be premature, let's see how they do against the big boys - but you may be right.

Less than 3 weeks ago, we lost by 32 points to a D2 team. It comes as no surprise that we got creamed by the #19 D1 team in the country. If we are competitive tomorrow against Wake Forest, I'll be happy.

There are no miracles this season. Have the occasion Rutgers-style victory and look forward to watching individuals improve.

How many leis would Louisville recruits get?

Did not see the so called game .Just got home but honestly I was not surprised or upset. If you knew anything about the game the results were expected but not by 37 but probably knew prior at least by 20 plus. It is a very very big work in progress .We will improve if we do not than thats mainly on the coach and staff but I do not see us not improving.I only hope we start to bring in bigger, better stronger players . Our day to shine will come. But the sun probably will not shine this yr. Be competitive in our games would be better than most would have expected. Lets not give up

Does that mean the team that beat us by 32 would only lose to Vandy by 5 .. I don't think so. It could very well be if we played them again the score would be a lot closer I have not seen the game but after viewing would be able to make a more intelligent opinion on our play

Matching the caliber of our performance today was Bill Walton's vapid commentary....I had to mute a couple of times. I pray he is not doing tomorrow's game.
