Vaccine

Just curious everyone's thoughts on getting vaccinated. Been a lot of discussion at work. I got my first shot the other day. Other than a sore arm for about a day all seems ok from it.

I work for Homeland Security and they are trying to get us the vaccine as soon as they can. I will take it as soon as I can get it. I have absolutely no issues getting it.

A good friend was part of the Moderna trials. She's pretty sure she got the vaccine and not a placebo - she ran a slight fever and was achy for a day after the 2nd shot.
My spot in line will probably be April or May..... or longer if the distribution hits a snag as it already has.
I'd take it tomorrow if I could.
Hoping my elderly parents get it asap. They live in one of the hardest hit areas in NYC (and the world) and have underlying conditions.

I’m definitely taking it. Our own MCNPA like Eric got it in the last week. No side effects other than his wife saying on Facebook that in the middle of the night he was chanting “ let’s go UConn “

Ha!! Even a vaccine wouldn’t make me do that! That said, yes I got the vaccine first dose this past Wednesday. (Pfizer obviously). Zero side effects except mild soreness of arm if any.

As a medical person, I encourage all to ge this vaccine. I’ve seen what covid can do. It’s not fake like some think and is killing a ton of people with extremely long recovery if you do improve. The vaccine is good technology and I’m excited to be one of the first to get it. I hope all go out and get it if available to them and as soon as you’re able.I get my second dose on January 6th. I’ll let everybody here know how it goes.

I get my second dose jan 7.

the VA sent out a vaccine questionaire to all VA people. we were asked if we want the trump vaccine. i replied yes. then the VA sent a followup e-mail stating that one's VA gp will prioritize all their clients as to when each client will be getting the vaccine. the priority will be VA clients in VA nursing homes then VA first responders then clients based on age/health issues. another benefit to my being a grey panther.

Any medication or vaccine that is ingested or injected always carries a risk of an adverse event.

Any decisions then are always based on a risk/benefit basis.

With a covid vaccine, delivered early as promised, the benefits to the public at large and to individuals, is enormous. Without question except for very rare cases of hypersensitivity or other legitimate medical concerns, EVERYONE should get the vaccine. Given 300,000 deaths in this country alone, I would favor mandates to vaccinate in schools and in the workplace.

If the decision to vaccinate or not has any basis in the destructive rhetoric expressed by some very prominent individuals last summer and this fall causes some people to decide not to get the vaccine, those individuals who professed such opinions will have blood on their hands.

Vaccinate. Period. This should not even be a discussion other than to encourage everyone to get it. The best legitimate way to eradicate Covid, like many deadly diseases before it, is to vaccinate. Crazy groups, like one religious group in Brooklyn and Monsey, were discouraging members from being vaccinated against measles, and became epicenters for an outbreak. The same groups are gathering in close contact for weddings and funerals, and daring the city to take action against them - DeBlasio threatened but did nothing.

Getting two vaccines this quickly, in part by government investment and in part by pressure to reduce the miles of red tape associated with FDA approval, is nothing short of amazing and certainly faster than any agent has ever been safely brought to market since these regulatory bodies were established. This should not even be a decision whether to vaccinate or not.

I do think that most of those who are hesitant or skeptical will decide to get once they see such a high percentage with no significant issues from the vaccine.

That's me, gonna wait and see the affects it has on others before i take it.
I see my brother everyday and he had the anti body test, he has the anti bodies, so i assume I probably had it as well. It was minor if I had.it.
So now I take the vax, and there's a major complication and I didn't need it.
Why open up a can of worms for nothing

They say you gotta take it so you don't give it to others, that's bs.
If high risk people take the vaccine, that right there prevents others from giving it to them.

It's like they're trying to force you to take it.
Here's a pretty good explanation as to how we got a vaccine so fast.

Prior to the Covid vaccine now being administered, the fastest development of a vaccine was 4 years, for mumps in the 1960s.

America led the way, and because this millions of lives will be saved.
33 years and counting for a vaccine for AIDS.

Of course, on this subject, I'd yield to your expertise.

I had the misfortune of being in close contact with a lot of anti-vaxxers (pre-covid).
They are a very scary bunch.

No expertise, just reinforcing your point about what an accomplishment this has been, especially taking a gamble on an unproven technology.

Some of them are in real pain as they have children diagnosed as on the autism spectrum and they flail about looking for something to blame (vent at). Others are political. Yes, they are scary.
