Up Next: Creighton

What do you guys think about playing Hooper a more this game? Creighton is not a fast team so he should be able to stay with his man on defense and if Wragge does get hot from three maybe Hooper can offset that with few threes of his own. I know we in no way want to get in to a shooting contest with these guys, that's no win situation, but maybe Hooper can add something this game.

I think Greene will take away any chance he sees the court. I would like to see him get in the game to see if he is hot.

I think that now that we've won 3 in a row, and a rotation that is playing well, you don't take minutes away from any player at this point.

I prefer Greene to Hooper (off the bench- do not want to see Greene starting.) Greene's 3-point % is higher this season and far more of Hooper's points have been in garbage time. Plus he's more of a liability on defense than Greene. IMO

LOL

Phil is shooting .405 to Max's .400.

And you speak as if Greene is some sort of defensive stopper. The majority of our guards allow dribble penetration.

Max spaces the floor better than anyone on the team.

And Creighton really has only one athletic guard who gets minutes.

Max needs to be on the floor. We will not beat Creighton in the half court. Villanova couldn't win that way and they actually have a post presence.

Max's stats are misleading. His 3-point % was significantly boosted by the G'town game, where his contribution was mostly during garbage time, we were down by 20 pts, their starters were out and there was no chance of us winning. Far easier to score in those situations when the pressure is off.

I would say 3 athletic guards. Chatman, Brooks and Manigat.

IMO we only win this game with D. Run outs, put backs, steals, getting to the rim, getting fouled and getting to the line. It all comes from playing D, and thats how we live or die.

Not sure if anyone has seen this. But Creighton's ability to hit 3s from anywhere is scary.

Watched the PC game.
They took 25 seconds off the clock on every possession.
Also the beneficiary of a phantom 2nd foul on McDermott.
If SJU tries to run with this team, it's suicide.
Play a half court game, same outcome.
Just an awful matchup.
Line will be close to 10.

this is our kind of game. We win against long odds, and then this board goes crazy about the pending NCAA bid again.

I read on cbssports.com that Creighton will be ranked #17 for the game. So yes, could get our first top 25 win of the season.

unless some things change, this one has the potential for an epic level embarrassment. I expect Lavin will play Green at the point and play 10 feet off their shooters. And seriously here is what I see killing us: interior pass or drive; 3 of our guys collapse and the ball gets kicked out for a wide open 3. The other will be the skip pass for 3.

Odds on how many fouls we commit against the 3pt shooter? Jordan fouling out? Sanchez fouling out? I won't even ask about Obekpa. I've never been so pessimistic about a game.

Caught some of Creighton/GTown on Saturday. Think their athleticism is being undersold here. They might not be dunk/shot-block athletic, but they're sneaky quick in transition, to loose balls, and defensively - they've only allowed one team (Xavier) to score 70 or more against them in their last 14 games. For a team that's an offensive juggernaut (1st in the nation in assists, 11th in FG%, 19th in points), that's pretty scary defensive work.

I've been a big proponent of us playing as fast as possible, but for the first time all season I think playing that way tomorrow carries significant risk. They are so fundamental and move the ball so well they could carve us up. That said I can't see us winning a half-court game against a team like this, so may as well play our game with the momentum we've built playing that way recently. Think we're going to need an off night from Creighton and a really good game from us to beat a team like this on the road no matter what style we play.

On the subject of fouls, I think if you are going to foul someone in the act of shooting, you make sure the shot has zero chance of going in. Pessimism? Geez, we all have short memories.

Creighton fans take on the game tomorrow:

http://bluejayunderground.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2894&sid=2d674565aa35a93095f2de19a36299e9

Well good to see they have their share of wacked out fans :woohoo:

No kidding. I particularly like the fear that implied that our NYC kids might get really upset at getting blown out and do something , implying violence. Guarantee you that most of these rubes have never even sniffed NYC no less know that our roster is anything but a NYC roster. I'd be really afraid that Marco will slap one of them with a glove and challenge them to a duel.

Hahaha, I know, they do have some off the wall posters. There are some worried fans on there, and also I was surprised to see some of their fans complaining about the atmosphere at their arena.

Lol, spend a day at Carnesecca and they will kiss the floor of their 19,000 seated centurylink arena. How can they actually complain?

also I saw a St. John's fan on there.

Overall, I hope to see a huge win, but much like Paul I don't expect one whatsoever. I don't see it being close, but can see it being close when we play at the garden.

Hope I'm wrong, but see an 18 point loss tomorrow night.

It would be easy to predict a big loss, b ut I'm going to go out on a first floor ledge and say I believe our team realizes they can play with anyone, and if they bring their game, Creighton may get their first official welcome to the competitiveness of Big East basketball and how you shouldn't shoot your mouths off too soon.
