To date - our team is what it is. A cellar dweller that comes up small when the game is on the line. Kids and coaches do not play with the high level of intensity needed to win games against the better teams - that's why we've lost them all this year. The remainder of the season will be a telling sign as to where Steve Lavin is as a head coach. From what I've seen the team and the coaches lack killer instinct which comes from hitting shots which we can't do. We simply don't have the basketball players that can do it and why the team plays small again big teams. You can overcome poor shooting when you are better than the other teams (i.e. all our wins this year) but against most of the big east teams we are not better.
Steve Lavin and the coaching staff are nice guys and Steve is a very intelligent and caring person who wants to win, but just can't. He really misses Dunlop as a x and o's expert and you can see the difference in watching the games particularly on the defensive side. Right now coach Lavin gets outcoached, outworked and outhustled by teams in our conference who have better coaches and better programs.. Creighton and Butler are two of those programs that we will experience starting tonight. I think Coach Lavin's moxie was impacted, understandably, by his bout with cancer and his father's loss and he lacks the X and O expertise to compete a the highest level.
College basketball is about winning and losing and coach Lavin, at this point, will likely not be able to win enough because the other coaches and programs in the Big East are better than him.
What will the remainder of the season show us about Coach Lavin? More losing or turnaround?
