Up Next: Butler

I don't think can play too many minutes but as a spot player he could stick some daggers when we need them. The team looked and played entirely different when Branch was running the show. They even showed some plays and their spacing was much better than we have seen in the past.

Phil Greene is not a bad player. He just has been overused and misused. Its clear that he is not a point guard. Everyone sees that. He doesn't turn the ball over because he very rarely tries anything that involves risk. It means that you have a low turnover count, but it also means that you don't generate high percentage shots for yourself or teammates. As for his shooting...I have noticed that he is a fairly accurate shooter when he has his feet set and body squared up properly. His percentage drops quite a bit and he is a streaky shooter when is fet are not set and body square. It means he is good when used as a spot up shooter, but not that good when off the dribble or the step back.

This goes for the whole team including DLo.

The difference in this game was the defense in the last 30 minutes. Gave up 25 in the first 10 minutes, 27 the last 30. Biggest differences; Jordan's work on Dunham, he basically took him out of the game by overplaying him and fighting over virtually every pick, as did Branch. By far that was our best defensive stretch of the season. We by and large finished off the D by rebounding better, not great, but certainly much better. If we bring that D the rest of the year we will be fine. Don't want to put a damper on a fine win but I couldn't help but wonder why it took 20 games for us to be play an almost complete game (ALWAYS room for improvement.) Creighton is very tough and are much more than just McDermott. As for minutes vis a vis Greene, it is obvious to me we should see if the Branch lineup helps us turn the corner for real. Me, I do think we will see the same starters as Butler, but nothing Lavin does could surprise me so I am very curious as to what lineup we see Tuesday. One last point, the most telling play of the game to me was Jakarr hustling and diving for a ball at midcourt; first time I ever remember him showing that kind of intensity without the ball, very, very nice to see.

That Jakarr play was awesome. I was jumping up and down at home. We need more of that

I only saw this game in bits and pieces, but for one game i have to eat some crow. Guys like Sampson and Sanchez were in total control and to get a road win at butler is impressive. I know, Butler stinks. But still....the team and lavin seemed like they finally had a clue how to play a complete basketball game and not just some street-ball showcase.

I noticed not much Greene out there...is lavin finally starting to get a clue? I've always like Branch, and he def should be getting phil's minutes. Also limiting Obekpa continues to be the smart thing to do.

Greene was not at the game due to illness

If this game had an mvp, it would be the "flu."

Very Happy wight he game yesterday. This was the team I have been expecting.

I've been on the Branch bandwagon for a long time and at times he makes me look like an idiot but he just adds so much of a different look for us. His jumpshot withstanding he has the best court vision on the team and sees plays before they are happening while looking the other way even. He is the type of kid who is going to make some bone headed plays but for every one of those he is going to make more good ones. He is a fantastic penetrator and makes the players around him better.

Loved the defense by our team after the 1st 5 minutes. GG has been playing well and his hustle is a good example to other kids on the team. Heck I think Sampson even dove for a ball and I have seen on several other occasions in the past where he doesn't do it.

Let's hope this is something to build on. Tough matchup next game but it's a must win. If we win then it's a reason to start getting excited again and at least make the rest of the season meaningful

Branch had a great game! If only he had a jumper.

Think it will come. Not bad form but not the quickest release either. Up until these last two games im sure he was worried about even looking at lavin the wrong way, with increased confidence and freedom I would bet he starts to hit some jumpers.

Just got home from the trip to Butler.

Absolutely fantastic time. Could not have been better. Great, great fun. Good number of the faithful (including Salty Dog) made the journey. People could not have been nicer.

Dinner at St. Elmo's on Friday night (best steak I have ever eaten), tour of Hinkle before the game, an extremely well attended reception prior to tip-off, dinner at The Indianapolis Colts Restaurant after the game (we were in Robert Irzay's private room,Thank You Very Much: Greg, Class of 1981), and then went back to The Marriott Indianapolis East (a great hotel) and had drinks with Lav and others.

And, a GREAT ROAD WIN !

Go St. John's !!!!!

I agree...I think Branch and Sampson have yet to gain confidence in jump shot (Branch more so)...once they gain confidence they will lose the hesitation that they both exhibit

Did Lavs give any insight on anything worth noting?
