Coach Lav. can recruit, but it is apparent we need a game coach. The loss of Coach D. cannot be overstated. I think we have to immediately begin a search for a real in game game coach. No slight to coach Lavin. He is among the best in the business bringing in top talent. We are fortunate to have him. However with the talent we already have it is painfull to watch less talented kids beat us at almost every phase of the game. We have that silly weave 25 feet from the hoop for 25-30 sec, and then we go into panic mode to get a shot off in 35. Many of the shots are ill planned or not planned at all. We have to get this ship straightened out quickly.
A few points, one in response to this post. There seems to be a general consensus that we are being beaten by less talented teams. Why are we more talented? Because they are our guys? Because they were higher ranked recruits than the Villanova, Rutgers and Asheville recruits? This is basketball, not track and field. Watch the supposedly lesser talented teams outshoot us from the line (% wise), usually outrebound us, and shoot better from three. We have athletes, not necessarily ballplayers. Lavin recruited like the NBA drafts, on potential. Under 25% from the line for Obekpa? That almost seems impossible. We have one guy that can be counted on to score beyond 12 feet. Next to no assists from Greene despite plenty of minutes. I see one guy with a head on his shoulders, and that's D Lo. And sometimes he misplaces that head.
As for Branch, it looks like the backup (in terms of minutes) PG has replaced the backup QB as the most popular guy on the team. Maybe if we got a 30 minute a game look at Branch the sentiment would be different, and not in a positive way. I'm not saying he lacks talent, just saying that he will be mistake prone as he shakes a year and a half of rust off of his game. Lavin seems to have a short leash on him, while Harrison has no leash. Who is runing the asylum?
