Two things

i know this may be tough for some of to swallow but lets try and enjoy the process and watching this team/program grow day to day and year to year!!! good or bad years i cheer and follow just as hard! lavin will continue to bring in quality recruits, think about it he had to replace a roster pretty much 2 years straight, and our best kid in 10 years left for the NBA......i have a feeling DLO and Jakarr are not leaving....when this ship turns its gonna turn fast guys, and i also think this may be Keady's last year.....Lav will replace with a big time XO guys mark my words!!

Enjoy the process?
This isn't 2nd grade CYO.
Grow?
Who has grown YOY besides Harrison?
Keady is not a coach. Lav can replace him with whoever he wants. He's working for bargain rate as a favor to Lavin. People aren't going to be beating down the door to be special assistant to the coach. Why do you think we struggled so hard to find an assistant all summer?

I like your optimism! I also agree about Coach K but I would not be surprised one of the assistants leaves. The assistants have responsibility for player development and our sophomores are still playing like freshmen.
Someone has to take the hit and it won't be Lav!
Remember .... On November 19th Lav said he was "very encouraged, perhaps more encouraged than ANY TEAM he has had at this stage". After the recent losses he is saying he knew this would be the most challenging season of his career. Maybe a little less encouraged?

Don't get me wrong I get frustrated at times also but I for one am enjoying watching Lav build a big time program!!!

My 2 things.

1- I'm glad I instituted a dont actually talk about the game on the internet after the game rule for myself.

2. Tried a Bronx pale ale at the garden and loved it

I have two things as well....
15 for 27 9 for 19 w/o Pointer
and 25% from the floor in the second half.

I also can't believe how undisciplined they were to start the game and the 2nd half.

Northernmost?
Where the heck have you been?

Coach Lav. can recruit, but it is apparent we need a game coach. The loss of Coach D. cannot be overstated. I think we have to immediately begin a search for a real in game game coach. No slight to coach Lavin. He is among the best in the business bringing in top talent. We are fortunate to have him. However with the talent we already have it is painfull to watch less talented kids beat us at almost every phase of the game. We have that silly weave 25 feet from the hoop for 25-30 sec, and then we go into panic mode to get a shot off in 35. Many of the shots are ill planned or not planned at all. We have to get this ship straightened out quickly.

A few points, one in response to this post. There seems to be a general consensus that we are being beaten by less talented teams. Why are we more talented? Because they are our guys? Because they were higher ranked recruits than the Villanova, Rutgers and Asheville recruits? This is basketball, not track and field. Watch the supposedly lesser talented teams outshoot us from the line (% wise), usually outrebound us, and shoot better from three. We have athletes, not necessarily ballplayers. Lavin recruited like the NBA drafts, on potential. Under 25% from the line for Obekpa? That almost seems impossible. We have one guy that can be counted on to score beyond 12 feet. Next to no assists from Greene despite plenty of minutes. I see one guy with a head on his shoulders, and that's D Lo. And sometimes he misplaces that head.

As for Branch, it looks like the backup (in terms of minutes) PG has replaced the backup QB as the most popular guy on the team. Maybe if we got a 30 minute a game look at Branch the sentiment would be different, and not in a positive way. I'm not saying he lacks talent, just saying that he will be mistake prone as he shakes a year and a half of rust off of his game. Lavin seems to have a short leash on him, while Harrison has no leash. Who is runing the asylum?

Branch is going to make mistakes (way too many unnecessary flashy passes for my liking leading to turnovers).

But he also creates easy scoring opportunities for our bigs. Phil Greene has not done that. I cannot recall an assist from Phil Greene this year but I'm sure it was assisting on a perimeter jumper.

I like Phil. I really do. He played his best ball as a collegiate at the start of this year.

But he does not know how to run an offense and he plays better off the ball IMO.

Time to give the keys to Branch. He needs gametime to develop.

Branch tried to make a spin move in the second half in traffic and threw the ball out of bounds, Lavin sat him for the rest of the game. Garrett tried to force things on the offensive end with an out of control play and Lavin sat him. Difference is Amir got back in the game. Guess Lavin still doesn't have the same confidence level with Jamal. But I agree, Jamal should have gotten another look.

He had 1 TO. No excuse for that few minutes.

+1000

3 comments on the thread; don't know why Branch isn't playing more but Lavin and co. are not idiots. How did we ever have a losing team last year with X's and O's genius Mike Dunlap? It takes time to build a program, implement systems, build team chemistry, etc. Like it or not, it takes time, this is not AAU.

coach lav is going nowhere guys.....lets start there!! we are the youngest team in the COUNTRY!!!

http://www.texassports.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/tex-m-baskbl-mtt.html

They have 2 Seniors and are 8-7. What's the point of your link? To show that a team that is slightly older is playing worse? There are plenty of examples of that this year.

Um look at stats. The SR's don't play a lick. They are younger than us by class.

You are correct in that they are actually a younger team! Good analysis.
Lavin tried to keep us "nationally ranked" .........as the youngest team by redshirting God's Gift and flubbing the paperwork for Sanchez but it is backfiring! LOL!

i swear to god reading this board sometimes is like reading a anyi SJU board, maybe im one of the few
but i love the direction of the PROGRAM, yes this season has had some real down turns but there is
improvement in chemistry!! i really think dunlop is the missing piece and or someone like him, i hope
we find someone like him soon......i really do see us getting both jordan and lawrence!!! harrison and jakarr
are not going to go anywhere!!

Been here "just looking" interested as ever. Gave up my season tickets after 34 years two years ago.Factors: Commute (From Litchfield, CT), 68" flat screen, bathroom is close and beers are about $2 each.. kids have graduated college and live in the Boston burbs. Wanted to go to a few games this year but the schedule doesn't coincide well with my officiating schedule. My daughter Alyssa and Tim H. are going to the Notre Dame game...natch! I'll be doing a varsity high school game that evening. Hope we have learned to defend the three by then. Obekpa ought to get about 7-10 blocks on Cooley.

It is fun to watch the team now opposed to the "Dark" years. Actually have a shot in each and every game. I remember going to games feeling like I was going to a "lions and christians" meeting.

(Hope all is well with you and yours TIS)

Thats great that you love the direction of the program.
There are others that are skeptics and are speaking their peace in a civil way for the most part.

Your 'gut' feeling is getting Jordan and Lawrence?

So lets recap then-

Obekpa
Gift
Karr
Lawrence
Amir
Dom
Harrison
Jordan
Branch
Greene

Marco
Max
Jones
Felix

That equals 14. One of the NCAA limit of 13. So who is leaving and don't say Max will walkon. Next issue that is 13 players. Who is getting the shaft on minutes? Right now we are only running 7 for the most part. Next issue and the biggest one of all that I might make my signature on all posts.

5 spots, 200 minutes, 1 ball.

as you know moose there is alway alot of movement at programs and im sure if lavin has the chance to get both he will find a way and yes i can see hooper walking on, he does come from lots of money!!!! there is no such thing as having too much talent on a teams, if that is our team next year certain players
need to take on roles......every good team needs role players right? and i have no problem with
people voicing opinions, this is a forum, all i said was I for one am enjoying the process!!!!
ive coached at the college level, not basketball, and can apprieciate building from the ground up

With your lineup, the rotation would likely be 8 players with 2-3 getting "specialist" minutes.
Harrison, Sampson, Obekpa, Lawrence and Branch would get the bulk of my minutes. Following would be Jordan, Gift and Amir. Fouls, leads and other situations would dictate other minutes. Green and Pointer would see radically fewer minutes on my team......Balamou more.
