Two things

The players are what they are. Overrated or not, they still have to perform.

When you recruit slashers who can't shoot, that is the product you will get. I fine with that.

My problem is that they have to be put in positions to utilize their talents and they're not. That falls on the staff.

You don't think dribbling the ball around the perimeter for 30 seconds benefits a slasher?

;)

I have two things as well....
15 for 27 9 for 19 w/o Pointer
and 25% from the floor in the second half.

I also can't believe how undisciplined they were to start the game and the 2nd half.

Yeah, in the means streets of a Chicago park.

Not in a regulated Division 1 NCAA game.

I am puzzled by this as well. A theme to Lavin's recruiting classes is they are overrated. Harkless,Harrison and Obekpa are worth the hype. The rest not so much.

I'd say Sampson was worth the hype as well. Last 3 games ironically all BE games have kind of subdued that enthusiasm.

Except for Moe Harkless....who got drafted without being polluted by Lavin's lousy coaching, all the others need "player development". That is what Rico Hines was hired to do, along with coach D. After coach D left, we can see Rico is spending way too much time wooing Hollywood starlets than "teaching" our young players the simple skills, like free throws, to develop their game. I would buy him a one-way ticket back to tinsel town and give Coach Keady the job.

I agree up 4 at half and we had the ball and before you knew it we were down points. Awful start to the the 2nd half.

I know the team lacks beef and is a little height disadvantaged but every time I look there is NO ONE in the paint. Any semblance of a post game from anybody would help as well. Especially if the post player was able to make the right decisions to make a move or kick out (the few times Jakarr gets the ball within 8 feet he's positively Zendonesque). The perimeter offense makes Marco a non factor. No need for his guy to ever leave his side. Ergon he gets few minutes. It makes it infinitely harder for DLo to get open as well. I'm pretty sure this was a role Sanchez was supposed to play but in his absence they have to work on this with CO. Just my thoughts.

It sickens me that Branch transferred here to get more playing time, and sat out until December for us. Now Lavin rewards him by benching him? Wtf? He may not be the best PG in the world, but he's clearly better than Greene and trust me there are days he can go off for 15 if not 20. He has a pretty good stroke offensively and he can slash to the hoop and draw fouls. Why is Marco not playing either? We have NO SHOOTERS outside of Harrison. Why are we not drawing up plays to get him open and shooting 50%+ from 3 for once? We are ice cold inside, ice cold from short range, and ice cold from 3. Ontop of that, we cannot make friggin free throws and we don't know how to run fast breaks. A fast break in Harrison's mind is to have a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1, stop and pull up for 3. Other guys get 2 or 3 on 1's and they either let the opponent catch up or they take it themselves instead of passing to the open man for the layup.

Branch tried to make a spin move in the second half in traffic and threw the ball out of bounds, Lavin sat him for the rest of the game. Garrett tried to force things on the offensive end with an out of control play and Lavin sat him. Difference is Amir got back in the game. Guess Lavin still doesn't have the same confidence level with Jamal. But I agree, Jamal should have gotten another look.

Branch also got the ball stolen from him mid second half right as he passed mid court-- and that was the last of him.

He had 1 turnover.
Hardly enough to warrant being glues to the bench Christian Jones style.

Someone mentioned he threw one out of bounds, and we all saw him get his pocket picked at half court. Speaking of Jones, is he hurt? He hasnt even got in the last 2 games.....

At this rate we'll have another scholarship available next year. Meaning Jones, of course.

We have 4 guys around the 3 point line. Yet we take the fewest 3's in the BE.

Think someone might notice that.

Coach Lav. can recruit, but it is apparent we need a game coach. The loss of Coach D. cannot be overstated. I think we have to immediately begin a search for a real in game game coach. No slight to coach Lavin. He is among the best in the business bringing in top talent. We are fortunate to have him. However with the talent we already have it is painfull to watch less talented kids beat us at almost every phase of the game. We have that silly weave 25 feet from the hoop for 25-30 sec, and then we go into panic mode to get a shot off in 35. Many of the shots are ill planned or not planned at all. We have to get this ship straightened out quickly.

Yes.
But can we expect any one person to do it all??? One spouse? One child? One teacher? One coach? One Army officer (my first career - served at Fort Carson same time as Mike K. - used to see him in the post gym circa early 1970s)

I'm thrilled with Coach Lavin's magnetism and recruiting - and the x and o thing - well that seems readily curable - if the current assistants cannot help during the game, find someone who can - such as ???

Rex Ryan or, Tebow, or Barry Bonds and his buddies Mc Guire (the anti-Maris) et al.

oh wait a minute the wrong sport.
Keep the Lavin package, we all feel we will be in the rankings and NCAAs in time
BUT add to the staff someone who adresses the weakness so finely presented above by all "you guys"

thanks

all the best

Are you recommending an "associate head coach " or a new coach...period?
Lav had his chance to hire Keady and went for another UCLA flunkie instead. He could have pulled a Jim Calhoun/George Blaney act but passed.
As far as two things......plastic and pharmaceuticals.

coach lav is going nowhere guys.....lets start there!! we are the youngest team in the COUNTRY!!!
going up against senior laden squads, please lets let the process play out, we are going to be a viable top 25 teams
for a long time!! pictue next year......jordan harrison sampson lawernce and BIG O!!!!
with a deep bench......brick by brick my dears citizens, brick by brick!

One other point. I recently saw MSG Vault the early 1980s game v. BC with Bily Goodwin, Russell, a young Mullin and Wennington. We won the Big East but was Louie really coaching any better than Steve Lavin? No he had experineced players who for a good part of the game coached themselves.

My point: we have a very young team. Louie had perhaps similar talent but some were older and Big East-wise.

Besides looking for an x & o assistant - let's give it time (Chambers Brothers, The Time Has Come Ttoday), for this team the time will come tomorrow, perhaps next year.

all the best

Excellent guru.
As much as people moan here, this team is (") close to being 3-0 in conference, (") close.

I was close to winning the lotto too.

So sick of everyone thinking Gift or Dunlap would turn us into a much better team. It's just not true. When we had Dunlap our players did not like him since he was a hardass, and we didn't even do well. We won 13 games under him. He was an assistant coach for a reason.

i know this may be tough for some of to swallow but lets try and enjoy the process and watching this team/program grow day to day and year to year!!! good or bad years i cheer and follow just as hard! lavin will continue to bring in quality recruits, think about it he had to replace a roster pretty much 2 years straight, and our best kid in 10 years left for the NBA......i have a feeling DLO and Jakarr are not leaving....when this ship turns its gonna turn fast guys, and i also think this may be Keady's last year.....Lav will replace with a big time XO guys mark my words!!
