@Tulane, Fri. Dec. 2, 8pm, ESPNEWS/970AM

The good is we won by20 points
and we won on the road. The negative is we will not shoot 3 s consistently as well , we gave up 75 points to a poor or inexperienced team and our 2 returning bigs , other than Simas free throw shooting , certainly have not shown improvement. That is not a long term winning formula. In order for us to come close to 15 wins this season Sima and Yakwe have to improve on last years rebounding and scoring numbers. Since we don't have superstars at this point in time we need a better team effort from a group of the 8 whose name is not Marcus, Shamorie or Bashir.

I don't think Sima has regressed as much as not given 100% of his ability. He is a very docile big man who plays like the kid he is. Yakwe on the other hand has been, imo, the big Achilles heal. If Owens, at 6'11 were 20 pounds heavier he would be getting most of his minutes. He blocks just as well but is much more aggressive in rebounding and attacking the hoop. With Marvin Clark coming I'm not sure if he will be top 7 in next year's rotation. Of course he is well behind the learning curve and may be a terrific 6th man as a senior. Like Sima, he is too docile and young at this stage.

Tulane looked really young and inexperienced to me.

They looked just like St John's did one year ago - young and inexperienced
Fwiw, the announcer last night said that we have the 2nd youngest team in D-1

2nd youngest team in college basketball, made up of mostly 3 star recruits, and people are calling for the coach's head early in what is essentially his first real year. SMFH!!!!!!

I'm so confused. Its a bunch of 3 star recruits? I thought STJ had 3 top ranked players, a JC player of the year and a JC stud and 3 under recruited future NBA players from Europe? Hyperbole not mine.

Muss and Frued were pretty well recruited, Frued maybe a bit more. Amar was not recruited at all and wouldn't be here if our previous coach's summer vacation plans didnt include Italy. As a team, Id say our players average about 3 stars. Some higher(IE Ponds), some lower (Amar). They're young, its their first year playing together and we have a coach who is learning on the job. Patience!.

is there any chance that Mussini can develop into the type of player Archidiacomo (sp??) was for Nova???

No, Arc is a natural point guard, stronger & was much better prepared for physicality of college game IMO. Aliso more adept at flopping. :)

Also, one calls it sauce; the other, gravy.

The third Euro is Sima.

Re rankings, no they don't average 3 stars since the only guys who might have bee 2 stars really shouldn't be playing and more than half of what should be the core rotation were 4 star recruits. Youth is an okay excuse for what we're seeing on the floor, lack of talent recruited is not. While it might not be Kentucky's roster, it's more than enough to win if your coaching and talent evaluation are at least a little above average.

We have 4 players who have shown they can shoot the ball.. Ponds, Lovett, Mussini and Ahmed. If 2 of the four can hit shots in games, we can score on any team and not rely on scoring inside, except put backs or tip ins. Neither, Sima or Yakwe has great hands to receive the Blall, which negates some of Lovetts playmaking. Ellison is a lesser skilled shooter but, has his moments. he also gets out of control quite frequently .

Our inside Game is non existent and Yakwe and Sima have not developed as fast as hoped. They are not instinct players by nature and we may have to realize getting them the ball inside is not going to be a high scoring option. i would prefer to see the 3 shooters,Ponds, Lovett, Mussini plus Ahmed in the game as much as possible. Yakwe and Sima should not be in the game at the same time, in my opinion. Ellison can spell any of the primary shooters , when they need a blow. It should give him some decent PT.

One thing I'll say about Muss is he's getting better at the Archie move of shedding his defender with a push to get off his shot. Did it late in the Del St game. Was shocked it wasn't called. Let's see how BE official treat it since he doesn't have Archie's rep. PS Bryce Alford apparently is also great at it based on the game I just watched. Only got called on it once out of 4 or 5 times.

As stated, they are totally different players. At his peak, Mussini can provide some offense by knocking down open/contested shots created for him by others, handle the ball enough to not be a problem, and provide average defense so that he is not a liability. Arch was one of the better PGs and leaders we've seen in the Big East the last few years; he could facilitate the offense, create his own shot when needed, knock down open jumpers, defend at a high level and rebound well for a guard. Mussini will never be on the level of Arch as a player and if they both weren't white we wouldn't be comparing them. That doesn't mean that Mussini cannot be a valuable piece on a good team and continue to improve with growth physically and as a player.

I think your observation about Yakwe having lost his instincts makes sense. He seems to deliberate before each shot showing a lack of confidence. It's like a golfer standing over the ball thinking about everything that could go wrong - instead of just going for it.

I knew it was there but I'm not big on watching games I already know the score of. But I'll watch a little just to see Mike and Darren and see if I can identify JSJ.
you will see Darrin and I sitting down right in front of JSJ at the 11 minute mark in the 1st half behind SJU bench. 2nd half we are all over the tv when SJU has the ball on our bench side of the court

before the season started people were saying this was our most talented team since Jarvis. We have talent. Kids just need to get seasoned and improve along with staff hopefully

Funny on Ponds' shots and Ahmed you were calling it at point of release when Ali B took it you must have been like "WTF is shooting for ?" then he hits it...

Exactly right. Actually both Ponds shots from in front of me plus Bashir but when Amar took it I'm thinking WTF are you doing and when it went in I'm thinking OMG I can't believe it :)

Before the season people were delusional.

Dangelo's junior year we had the most talent since Jarvis's run.
Harrison, Sampson, Pointer, Jordan all would be the best player on this team.
Plus role players like Obekpa Branch Greene Sanchez

It's a cardinal sin that that team didn't even make the tournament.

Desco you would take a junior pointer or freshmen Jordan over Lovett and Ponds?
