Transfers SJU May Get Involved With

Regardless of how much playing time there is for another big man, it is unbelievable to me that this staff couldn't find one big guy out of High School, Prep School, Junior College or Fifth year Transfer who can play at this level to come here and add depth. Not one big man?????? It's just absurd.

This post could go back to the days of the original Board at the end of Jarvis's first season. We needed a big man then and didn't land one. The difference was the feeling it that team had a couple of big men added to it for the next season, we could go all the way.

I don't get it either, we can't even get a 2 star recruit???

How many two star recruits do you think they should add? Which one wants to come here? Be specific and tell me in advance how you'd praise the staff for adding a two star recruit who'd be playing significant minutes.

Hey I wasn't recruiting Kante, ask SJU and Matt because I believe they were.
So you should ask them, not me.

Just read an article that said Beverly will commit to ISU when he gets there. Desmoine register.com

He's a three star recruit who chose to go to a better university in a nicer neighborhood than the one you managed to get into. And having seen the women in Georgia I can't say that I blame him.

lol ok a three star, is there much difference there?

The last time SJU went to the tournament Dom Pointer played plenty of minutes at the five because we were so thin up front. So playing small is not optimal but not impossible either. Luckily this is not two years ago where we had to sign anyone who could stand up fairly straight because we had so few players. That is the situation Georgetown finds itself in and why some of these players are looking at the Hoyas. Unless you really think it is the deep recruiting ties that Patrick Ewing has built in his long tenure as the Georgetown coach.

Something seems to have gone slightly wrong or else I don't understand why Williams decided to move on. But eventually I suspect we sign some type of one year body for emergencies and accept that Amar might have to play ten minutes a game. It's easy to freak over the latter prospect as Amar is the devil we know, but I don't see how a Grad Transfer from Adelphi (!) would be an improvement. I hope Georgetown does sign that guy, in fact as an Adelphi grad I hope they go after every Adelphi transfer humanly possible.

How good would Sima look now? It shows how hard it is for a program like SJU to elevate its' status. The staff take a chance on recruiting Brown which probably causes Sima to leave and not only affects SJU last season but now has SJU willing to take low level recruits who might take up a scholarship for four years.
Sima,Jones and Williams depart and anyone who is brought in now will most likely be less talented than the three who left. Most of us felt recruiting Brown was worth a shot but it doesn't appear we have a plan B.

I just don't see how sima leaving is a negative. The team played better when he wasn't around. Owens has 3x the heart and motor, than Sima ever showed. If anything, Owens probably giving him the business in practice is what made him leave. If rooks wants to come and be a solid role player, that will get 20 minutes a game, on a team that can make a run in the NCAA tournament with him, or a bubble team without him. Like everyone keeps saying, one piece away.

While I am just as disappointed as the next poster about our recruiting failures, I don't think it's hard to see why we are failing.

We are not a projected NCAA team and we are not able to offer big time minutes. We're offering a potential spot as the 9th man and 4th big. We are in no man's land. When the cupboard was bare we could offer MAJOR minutes on a Big East team. If we win next year we can offer a tangible chance to be a part of a big time program playing at MSG. Now we're offering few minutes on what we hope is a bubble team with a dormant fan base. Meh.

Winning next year will change all.

We are not a projected NCAA team, but maybe if a big man would see themselves as part of the solution to go with that loaded back-court, maybe they could be a ncaa team. We aren't able to offer big time minutes, but with the lead they be in there to rebound and be an inside presense late in games, and if they want big time minutes, then work hard to improve, unless of course you think you can't complete with the other big men.

Quite frankly, I not sure the recruitment of Brown hadn anything to do with Sima leaving. I just think he wanted out. I agree though that I am not sure we would be having so much angst if he Sima had stayed, especially if Williams was not leaving also.

I don't know if you meant Ellison (although not a big) instead of Jones, but if you didn't, this past season was the last of Jones' eligibility. Now if you were referring to Jones helping out last year, well, I think for us Jones would have been the same Jones we saw the previous year. He frustrated me to no end.

How good would Sima look now? .

These are the posts I don't understand. Not all of them, there are lots. But Sima left in mid season - he wan't pushed out in January, he left of his own volition. I don't know why: maybe he didn't like the weather, maybe he broke up with his girlfriend, maybe he was miffed by his role on the basketball team, maybe he wasn't impressed by the sports management faculty. I have no idea. But how good he might look in May is an irrelevant question. Sure, he'd look good now coming in to a team that could use an interior presence. But from the perspective of now he looks like an imbecile for leaving a team on which he'd get significant minutes on a team that used to run plays for him in critical situations. I don't know how good he'd look now but now from my perspective he looks essentially like a dope who left a promising BB situation for a questionable one.

I agree that what I have outlined is not the ONLY reason we are missing out, but at this point we are recruiting lesser players who are unlikely to expect to beat out juniors Clark, Yakwe and Sima or senior Ahmed for minutes. When we started this recruiting cycle we 1) had a top notch big (who happened to be a horrible horrible signing but that's besides the point) and Sima and Yakwe was someone who looked very promising. You can see why before March/April we didnt have any better bigs on board other than ZB, and now we are getting hurt by being in no man's land, in part (IMO).

Fun might want to change his name to Cranky.

Before he accomplished much of anything, Matt backed his bosses in to a corner and publicly negotiated himself a nice raise on the premise of him being an ace recruiter who is going to bring enough high level talent to Jamaica, Queens for us to have a consistently winning team for years to come. I assume that he realizes that Jamaica ain't Athens, and that the coeds at SJU can't hold a candle to their counterparts at the big southern state school. In other words, he feels confident in his abilities to recruit to Jamaica in spite of the competition and the drawbacks. So far the results have been mixed. He still gets the benefit of the doubt, but it sure is starting to feel like its getting late early around here.

Anyone have any insight on whether we have a legit shot landing Kameron Rooks? Looks like a fairly athletic big man (with good genes), who could be an experienced and valuable role player for us.

Except for the fact that the university sucks and Queens is a shit hole and the coeds are ugly, this is a lot of nonsense. The facts is that after Lovett, Ponds, Ahmed, Owens, Simon, Clark and Yakwe were recruited - all four or five star recruits, so much for the results having been mixed - Matt may or may have not done something about his contract about which you may or may not have heard believable rumors because I doubt you know a thing about it other than the rumors you rwad on this board. Personally, as soon as I heard rumors he was leaving I learned to spell his name, that's was how sure I was he wasn't, but then I'm not a gull.

As for the benefit of the doubt, he's had his job for 25 months. So you're right, it's getting late really early, especially because the basis for the clock ticking is his inability to lure into the fold that illusive 2-star recruit who's going to turn the program around.

Here's a thought: maybe if prize cinque staro recruito Federico Missini didn't suck at basketballo the team would have won more games and recruiting would have easier.
