Transfers SJU May Get Involved With

Zags re Peter Kiss transfer from Quinnipiac

So far, he's received interest from St. John's, Cal, seton hall, auburn, & Fordham.

get this guy:

He looks smaller then Yakwe

he's got about 30lbs on Yakwe but more importantaly he "rebounds and plays defense" according to 72. That is a start. As I said, not "the" solution but considering we need 3 frontcourt players this would be a good start

They are about the same height but Zanna would get more minutes imo because he is aggressive down low in the Ty Grant mold. If anyone remembers the LIU game, Zanna totally dominated Yakwe inside. Yakwe posted his usual 2 blocks but scored only 2 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.
Zanna scored 13 points on 6-9 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds to go along with 4 steals. Hopefully Yakwe has his strength and aggressiveness when he is a senior.
Would be a great replacement for Williams, Alibegovic and Yakwe but he was a starter and may be looking for minutes.

Since we are getting a lot of our talent via the transfer route was thinking about who our best transfer has been to date? Based on how he performed here.
Best HS recruit was Mullin
Best JUCO was Berry
Best transfer-Reggie Carter? Ron Rowan?

Ron Rowan. Good grief. I'd take Curtis Redding and Bernard Rencher over Ron Rowan. Not to mention Paul Berwanger.

Anyway, Billy Paultz.

Heard of Rencher and Paultz obviously but before my time. Not familiar with Berrwanger but I am a big fan of "sittin on the dock of the bay" so Redding would get my vote.

Redding was an all american at Carnesie HS who transferred from Kansas State and amounted to nothing at SJ before Lou benched him and he quit the team. Berwanger was also nothing but I like his name. Say it out loud, B-e-r-w-a-n-g-e-r, the frisson is palpable.

Didn't Rencher start/play alongside Reggie Carter on a team that made it to the regional finals against Penn in Greensboro? We lost a close game; Tony Price Killed Us! May have even been overtime.

Per Julius Kim

Miami (OH) freshman PG transfer Michael Weathers has heard from: Miami (FL), St. John's, GW, Creighton, Tulsa, & Valpo, he tells me.

Breaking my own rule about double posting thanks for not mentioning floor slapping dope Matt Brust.

Wasn't the clutch Billy Goodwin (played early 1960s) a JC or transfer? I think so...
Indeed he was a JC transfer, one of several from San Jacinto

Wasn't Goodwin from the 80's not 60's?

Looks like Creighton is hungry for transfers as well. As for the LIU big man he would get plenty of playing time. As much as Mullin is going to want to have four of our five best scorers on the court as much as possible neither Clark or Ahmed are Power Forwards. If Amar leaves we have Yawke and Owens and they are foul machines.

Clark can and will probably start at the 4
Played the 4 in Big Ten

Played behind Dawson who as 6-6 4 averaged like 9 boards a game.
Clark reminds me of a better shooting, lefty Anthony Glover

Not OT but did miss 2-3 shots in final seconds including close in put back.

Ron Plair 21 points, 9 for 9 from the field and 3 of 3 from the FT line. Young Master fun's favorite player.

Once again violating the double posting rule. SJ lost by two. Penn shot 11 more free throws. SJ plus six rebounds, plus seven assists. Carter and Rencher fouled fouled out in 53 combined minutes. Frank Gilroy fouled out as well. Jesus no wonder I'm so bitter.

Yes fan5577 I got my decades mixed
I think he played just before the Mullin years...let me google it ... Goodwin - sitting on the rim - was on the 1983 cover of Sports Illustrated when SJU won Big East!

It is easy to understand the age of the posters on this site when this and other threads divert to discussions of players who play at StJohn's 35+/- years ago.

Tell me about it. I'm looking in this thread like

Google "Billy Goodwin/SJU" & somewhere within you can see the great BG Sports Illustrated cover
Circa 1983!
Enjoy

Hey guys maybe its because we haven't had much to cheer about since then. :eek:hmy: Yet we are still here, hoping. :cheer:

According to Zagoria, St. John's just offered Mikey Dixon of Quinnipiac, teammate of Peter Kiss. Matt A is following Dixon and Kiss. Both sit out transfers with 3 to play.

Mikey Dixon
6-2 - 160
16.5 PPG
3.7 RPG
2.3 APG
.454 FG%
.370 3PT%
.859 FT%

Cincy, Nevada, GW, La Salle, and San Diego also reached out to Dixon according to Zagoria.

Exactly, we saw the good years and that has kept us coming back.
I doubt there will be many who became fans over the last 25 years who will
be on an SJU fan site 30+ years later.
Hope springs eternal :)
